Humans in Age of Sigmar

One question that we all had at the beginning of Age of Sigmar was, where are the normal humans? We got some fantastic releases of truly inspiring new armies, but often we want to know what mere mortals are doing in these realms.

In 40K, we love to know how the Astra Militarum is doing; humans meant to fight against the nastiest of aliens. I think because we, as humans, want to know how we would fare against some of the more alien of aliens, we related to Astra Militarum.

This leans into the Cities of Sigmar, the newest release from Age of Sigmar from Games Workshop. What have regular old humans been up to, when matched against living trees and chaos-infused warrriors?

Humans in Age of Sigmar can be found in various roles and locations. They are often portrayed as brave warriors, mages, and leaders, and they are part of various factions. Some of the prominent human factions in Age of Sigmar include:

  1. Stormcast Eternals: These are celestial warriors, often depicted as the champions of order and Sigmar's chosen. Stormcast Eternals are essentially humans who have been reforged into powerful, immortal beings to serve Sigmar, the god of Azyr.

  2. Free Peoples: These are humans who live in the cities and settlements scattered throughout the Mortal Realms. They are known for their determination to survive and maintain their way of life amidst the chaos of the world.

  3. Cities of Sigmar: This faction consists of humans from different realms who have allied with Sigmar's cause. They come from various backgrounds and cultures but unite for the greater good.

  4. Mortal Realms: Some humans may be found as part of other factions, depending on their realm and alignment.

Some of the cool things about the Cities of Sigmar:

  1. Diverse Composition: Cities of Sigmar is a unique faction in Age of Sigmar, as it is a coalition of various races and cultures. This alliance brings together humans, aelves (elves), Duardin (dwarves), and even other creatures that have sworn allegiance to Sigmar. Each city or region within the faction has its own mix of races and units.

  2. City-States: The faction is divided into different city-states, each with its own character and specialties. Some of the notable Cities of Sigmar include:

    • Hammerhal: A major city in the Realm of Aqshy, it serves as a hub for trade and is known for its bustling markets.
    • Anvilgard: Located in the Realm of Aqshy, this city is known for its industrial might and connections to the dark and mysterious.
    • Tempest's Eye: Situated in the Realm of Ghyran, it is a city built on canals and is home to a significant Kharadron Overlords presence.
    • Hallowheart: Nestled in the Realm of Aqshy, it is a city focused on the study of magic and is a center for magical research and experimentation.
  3. Allies of Sigmar: The cities within this faction have chosen to align themselves with Sigmar, the god of Azyr, and fight alongside the Stormcast Eternals and other Order factions to combat the forces of Chaos and other threats to the Mortal Realms.

  4. Versatile Gameplay: Cities of Sigmar armies offer a wide range of unit choices, from heavily armored knights and warriors to swift archers, mages, and even exotic creatures like Kurnoth Hunters and Steam Tanks. This diversity allows players to adapt their armies to various strategies and playstyles.

  5. Magic: Many of the cities within this faction have a strong focus on magic. This includes access to various wizards and magical abilities, which can be a significant advantage in battles.

  6. Artillery and War Machines: Players who enjoy using war machines and artillery can find options within Cities of Sigmar armies. These include cannons, bolt throwers, and other devastating weaponry.

  7. Tactics and Subfactions: Different subfactions within the Cities of Sigmar offer unique abilities and playstyles. Players can choose a subfaction to tailor their army's strengths and abilities to their preferred strategy.
