Incoming Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus

Incoming Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus

In early December, Games Workshop will be launching the new Codexes and some new units for both the Necrons and Adeptus Mechanicus. These are two really unique factions in the 40K universe, and at Wandering Adventures we wanted to talk a look and see why they are so cool, and some of their gameplay aspects.

Necrons:

The Necrons an ancient and advanced race of skeletal, robotic beings who once ruled the galaxy in a vast empire known as the Necrontyr. However, the Necrontyr faced biological and social issues, and in their quest for immortality, they made a pact with the malevolent C'tan, ancient star gods, to transfer their consciousness into mechanical bodies. This transformation turned them into the Necrons.

  1. Immortality and Resurrection: One of the defining features of the Necrons is their ability to regenerate and resurrect. Many Necron units have the ability to reanimate after being destroyed, making them resilient on the battlefield. This theme of undying warriors adds a unique flavor to their gameplay.

  2. Advanced Technology: Necron technology is highly advanced, often surpassing that of other factions in the Warhammer 40K universe. Their weaponry, vehicles, and structures are characterized by a sleek, otherworldly design. This technology, combined with their unyielding nature, makes them formidable opponents.

  3. Tomb Worlds: Necrons often awaken from their dormant state on Tomb Worlds, vast planet-sized tombs that serve as their resting places. These Tomb Worlds are central to Necron lore and provide a thematic backdrop for their campaigns and battles.

  4. Dynasties: Necron society is organized into dynasties, each led by a powerful Necron Lord. Each dynasty has its own unique characteristics and strategies, allowing players to customize their armies based on the dynasty they choose.

  5. C'tan Shards: Some Necrons are bound to C'tan Shards, fragments of the ancient star gods. These powerful entities provide additional abilities and unique powers to Necron forces, adding strategic depth to gameplay.

  6. Gauss Weapons and Energy Weapons: Necron armies are equipped with Gauss weapons, which have the ability to ignore armor and inflict mortal wounds. The visual representation of these weapons on the tabletop, combined with their lore, contributes to the cool factor of the Necrons.

  7. Mysterious and Alien Aesthetic: The Necrons have a mysterious and alien appearance with their skeletal and metallic bodies. This aesthetic, along with their ancient and enigmatic lore, makes them visually striking and adds to their appeal.

In terms of gameplay, Necron armies are known for their durability, ability to regenerate, and powerful shooting capabilities. They often excel in attrition warfare, wearing down opponents over the course of a battle. Players who enjoy resilient armies with a unique blend of shooting and close combat often find the Necrons to be a fascinating and rewarding faction to play.

The visual aesthetic of Tech-Priests and their cybernetic enhancements adds a unique and cool factor to the faction.
  2. Cult of the Machine God: The Adeptus Mechanicus follows a techno-religious cult known as the Cult Mechanicus, worshipping the Machine God. This blend of science and religion creates a fascinating and mysterious backdrop for the faction's lore.
  3. Skitarii Legions: The military forces of the Adeptus Mechanicus are represented by the Skitarii, cybernetically enhanced soldiers who are part of different legions. These legions are equipped with advanced technology and often have unique doctrines and specializations.
  4. Adaptive Technology: Adeptus Mechanicus armies are known for their diverse and adaptive technology. They have access to a wide range of powerful weapons, vehicles, and gadgets, making them a versatile force on the battlefield. The ability to customize and tinker with their units is a key aspect of their gameplay.
  5. Dominus-class Robots and Knights: The Adeptus Mechanicus fields formidable war machines, including the towering Dominus-class robots and the massive Knights. These mechanical behemoths are visually impressive on the tabletop and contribute to the faction's cool factor.
  6. Forgeworlds: The Adeptus Mechanicus is divided into different Forgeworlds, each with its own specializations and technologies. This allows players to customize their armies based on the Forgeworld they choose, adding variety to both the lore and gameplay.
  7. Mars and Belisarius Cawl: The Forgeworld of Mars is particularly significant for the Adeptus Mechanicus, and its Archmagos, Belisarius Cawl, is a central character in their lore. Cawl is known for his role in developing advanced technology, including the Primaris Space Marines.
  8. Adaptive Playstyle: Adeptus Mechanicus armies can be played in various ways, adapting to different playstyles. They excel in ranged firepower, but their units can also hold their own in close combat. This adaptability makes them appealing to players who enjoy strategic flexibility.
