What Were Some Of The Primarchs Doing During The Horus Heresy?

It's a beloved story for Warhammer 40K fans. The Horus Heresy. A tale of brotherhood and betrayal, it set the stage for our beloved game.

I'm a big fan of the Horus Heresy and the grimdark of 40K at large. I think it's one of the best settings and has some of the richest lore available for fans of the genre. From Dan Abnett to Graham McNeill, many authors have contributed to the overarching story.

During the Horus Heresy, many of the Primarchs played pivotal roles in the events leading up to the rebellion, the civil war itself, and its aftermath. Here's an overview of some of the key Primarchs and their roles during this tumultuous period in the Warhammer 40,000 lore:

Β

Horus Lupercal (Sons of Horus): As the Warmaster of the Imperium, Horus led the rebellion against the Emperor. Corrupted by the Chaos Gods, he convinced several other Primarchs to join him, plunging the Imperium into civil war.

Leman Russ (Space Wolves): Initially loyal to the Emperor, he clashed with his brother Primarchs, especially Magnus the Red, during the events that led to the Heresy.

Magnus the Red (Thousand Sons): Magnus was manipulated by the Chaos Gods and sought forbidden knowledge to save his Legion. This led to the tragic event known as the "Casting of the Rubric," which shattered his Legion and turned them to Chaos.

Fulgrim (Emperor's Children): Fulgrim embraced Slaanesh and played a significant role in corrupting other Legions and Primarchs, spreading Chaos.

Perturabo (Iron Warriors): Bitter and resentful, Perturabo joined the traitors and led his Legion in devastating siege warfare against loyalist forces.

Mortarion (Death Guard): Mortarion was swayed to Chaos and became a devoted servant of Nurgle, the Chaos God of plague. His Legion was transformed into a grotesque force of death and decay.

Lorgar Aurelian (Word Bearers): Lorgar was instrumental in spreading Chaos worship across the Imperium and was a primary architect of the Heresy's ideological aspects.

Angron (World Eaters): Angron, already a berserker, embraced Chaos wholeheartedly and became a ferocious force for the traitor side.

Konrad Curze (Night Lords): Known for his brutal methods, Curze terrorized loyalist forces during the Heresy.

Alpharius Omegon (Alpha Legion): The Alpha Legion operated in secrecy and engaged in intricate plots and sabotage to further Chaos's goals.

Roboute Guilliman (Ultramarines): Guilliman led loyalist forces and played a key role in trying to contain the traitor legions.

Rogal Dorn (Imperial Fists): Dorn defended Terra, the heart of the Imperium, during the Siege of Terra, a critical battle in the Heresy.

Sanguinius (Blood Angels): Sanguinius, despite his loyalty, was killed by Horus during the Siege of Terra in a climactic duel.

Jaghatai Khan (White Scars): The White Scars remained loyal, and Khan led hit-and-run attacks against traitor forces.

Vulkan (Salamanders): Vulkan and his Legion remained loyal and played key roles in defending the Imperium.

The Horus Heresy resulted in the shattering of the Space Marine Legions, with some loyalist Primarchs and their Legions surviving and others falling to Chaos. It left an indelible mark on the Warhammer 40,000 universe, leading to the grimdark future depicted in the setting's 41st Millennium.
