Bonesplitterz!

Bonesplitterz!

Hi everyone, now that our leagues have started here at Wandering Adventures, I wanted to talk about the process that went into choosing my army and the paint schemes!

We all kind of stress over paint, colours, list composition. It’s fun, but it can lead to a lot of indecision so I wanted to briefly talk about my process.

Let’s  start with Age of Sigmar, and my arm the Glowtoofs.

Last year I played two “good guy” armies, so this year I opted for something a little more neutral and landed on the Bonesplitterz. The range of models has been out for a while, and I really wanted to play something that I could paint any kind of kooky colours, and quite frankly I have always wanted to see purple orcs.

We have a regular Ironjawz player, and the Kruleboyz are still struggling to find their gameplay style, so Bonesplitterz seemed like a nice fit. They hit hard, have some crazy magic, but have little armor and their range is somewhat limited.

Anyway, when choosing a paint scheme I like to get one colour in my head and find 2-3 more to compliment it. I went with the realm Shyish, or the Shadow Realm, which helps direct my idea more. Like I said before, I wanted purple orcs, so what else could go with that? I usually use the Adobe Colour Wheel to help me out.

As you can see, orange and teals go nicely with the purple.

Then I want to choose a nice basing scheme, and this is where I decided to add the teal. The rocky texture suits an underground theme, and gives reasoning to the pale skin of my orcs. This also led me to my name, the Glowtoofs, a play on the glow of the rocks and the fact that they look like orc teeth (toofs). A few notes about the color scheme:

  • Orange was hard to place, and it didn’t look good on loin cloth. It does however, pop perfectly for the tattoos.
  • As far as loin and other random knick-knacks, I went with neutral colors. I didn’t want to overload the mini with color, so going with greys, browns, and even camo greens works for the clothing.
  • For the weapons, I did them in a neutral greys and then wash with turquoise. It compliments the bases and looks like they forged their weapons straight form the rock!

As far as list composition, I know this army needed the Wurgog Prophet. Just go check out his mask ability. It’s awesome and ended up taking down a Mawcrusha in game 1! I wanted some speed, so I opted for some Boarboyz, and a Savage Big Boss for his fight ability. I knew I needed some numbers so I added some regular Boyz. With 200 points left, I knew I needed a wild card. I had numbers, speed, magic and fight, so the 2x Stabbas fit the perfect idea of something that can offer me board control as well as some nasty melee hits.

I left out the Arrowboyz because I just feel like they don’t do enough damage from afar. The Boyz have a better melee profile, and the fact that Bonesplitterz get the pre-game move helps melee, not ranged.

So that’s everything for today, next I will talk about my Chaos Space Marines!
