Citadel Contrast Paints: Tips & Techniques
Citadel Contrast Paints: What They Really Do and How to Use Them for Miniature Painting
When Citadel first released Contrast paints, many hobbyists thought they’d finally found a “paint and go” solution. Brush it on, watch it shade itself, and your miniatures would be tabletop-ready in minutes. The reality? Contrast paints can save time—but only if you understand their quirks and how to use them properly.
We’ve seen plenty of hobbyists jump straight into Contrast paints without realizing their nuances. With the right approach, you can get excellent results and speed up your painting workflow.
The Reality of Citadel Contrast Paints
Contrast paints are pigment suspended in a medium that naturally flows into recesses. On a light, matte basecoat they can look impressive—but darker or glossy surfaces can give unpredictable results. Pooling, streaking, or uneven textures are common if you’re not careful.
Getting the Best Results with Contrast Paints
1. Start with the Right BasecoatContrast paints work best over smooth, mid-to-light colors like white, light grey, or tan. Dark primers can muddy the color, and glossy surfaces make the paint slide too much.
2. Thin Where NeededSome Contrast paint colors are thicker than others. Add a drop of water or medium to help them flow on large surfaces. This prevents heavy pooling and gives better control.
3. Use Targeted ApplicationUse smaller brushes for details like armor edges, clothing folds, or straps. Contrast paints exaggerate recesses, so broad strokes can look messy.
4. Layer After ContrastContrast paints rarely give a finished look on their own. After drying, go back with standard GW paints to highlight edges, sharpen details, or smooth transitions. This hybrid method saves time while keeping miniatures polished.
5. Try GlazesThinning Contrast paints with water or medium lets you glaze areas subtly. This tints without darkening shadows too much, giving more control than straight application.
Practical Ways to Use Citadel Contrast Paints on Miniatures
Snakebite Leather on straps and pouches
Snakebite Leather is a remake of an old beloved color. Luckily the Contrast version is a great re-imagining. Use it on straps or pouches for a rich brown that finishes with yellow edges.
Skeleton Horde on Bones or SkullsBasecoat skeletons with light grey or white, then apply Skeleton Horde. It naturally settles in recesses, giving depth. Finish with a dry highlight of Ushabti Bone or even a pure white.
Talassar Blue for Magical EffectsApply Talassar Blue over a pale base for energy effects or runes. Pooling creates natural shading; touch highlights with lighter blue or white. Try it over white for best results, but a bright silver might work too.
Plaguebearer Flesh for Muted Skin TonesUse Plaguebearer Flesh over pale pink or grey for undead or diseased skin. Brush into recesses, then highlight raised areas with a flesh tone.
Magmadroth Flame for Flames Use Magmadroth Flame on fire effects or glowing embers. Apply over a white, and let it flow naturally into recesses. Add a small highlight of Yriel Yellow or White Scar on raised areas to make the effect pop. Finish it with streaks of black to recreate ash.
Common Mistakes When Using Contrast Paints
Skipping proper drying time – Rushing the next step while the paint is still wet can lift color or create streaks. Patience pays off.
Using too much paint at once; let it flow naturally.
Expecting Contrast paints to replace layering and shading—they’re a shortcut, not a miracle.
Assuming all colors behave the same – Every Contrast paint has its own viscosity and opacity. Test on a scrap or hidden area before committing to a miniature.
Citadel Contrast paints aren’t magic, but they’re a useful tool when used correctly. Think of them as a basecoat or underpainting to save time, then add traditional GW paints for detail and control. Understanding how to use Contrast paints properly keeps miniatures looking good while avoiding the frustration of “easy” painting turning into a cleanup nightmare.

What’s On My Hobby Desk: Imperial Knight Meets ...
One of the best parts about running a hobby store in Vaughan is that I get to share not only new releases and events but also my own projects. Right now, my painting desk is completely taken over by a very strange crossover: an Imperial Knight done up like a Toronto Maple Leafs goalie.
The vision is simple (if a little ridiculous): a towering war machine done up like it just skated off the ice. I’m leaning into the classic Leafs look — white knee pads with “CCM” across them, some sharp white striping on the blue armor, and of course, the Maple Leafs logo worked into the design. The pièce de résistance will be the faceplate. I’m going to do my best (and I mean my best “poor impression”) of painting it like Felix Potvin’s iconic goalie mask. If it ends up even half as recognizable as I hope, I’ll call it a win.
Projects like this remind me why I love tabletop gaming. You can take a serious Warhammer model and spin it into something totally personal — a mashup that makes people smile when it hits the table. That’s what the hobby is all about.
Riftbound TCG Coming Soon
On top of the painting project, I’m also looking ahead to something new for our gaming community in Vaughan: the launch of Riftbound, a brand-new trading card game coming out on October 31st. We’re expecting to get trial decks in September, so players can swing by, test it out, and see if Riftbound clicks for them. If you’ve been looking for a fresh TCG in Vaughan, this could be one worth checking out.
Lately, I’ve been watching Arcane to get in the right headspace for League of Legends, and it’s definitely fueling the hype. Between hobby time and upcoming releases, there’s no shortage of things to be excited about at the store.
So that’s what’s on my desk: a hockey-mech mashup and the anticipation of a brand-new card game. If you’re local and looking to connect with others who love tabletop gaming in Vaughan, come by the shop — whether you’re into Warhammer, trading card games, or just need some hobby inspiration, there’s always something happening here.

Commander Nights at Wandering Adventures
Hi everyone! Just wanted to talk about a new adventure starting here at Wandering Adventures- Magic: The Gathering Commander Nights.Commander is a great format—but let’s be honest, it can get a little wild. Between 30 years of card history, tuned decks, and infinite combos, it’s tough for new or returning players to find a space where the game feels fun and fair. That’s something we want to help with. At Wandering Adventures, we’re putting together a new kind of Commander night—something structured, low-pressure, and most importantly, casual. The idea is simple: you start with a preconstructed deck from the store, and then each week you upgrade it little by little with a single booster pack. That’s it. No overwhelming deck building, no arms race of upgrades, just a shared journey where everyone grows together.
When you join, you’ll pick up one of the Commander decks we have available—examples might include the 2022 Starter Decks, Duskmourn, Bloomburrow, or the new Tarkir: Dragonstorm. You’ll play your first week with it straight out of the box. Each time you come back, you’ll grab one booster pack (the set will rotate weekly—we’ll mostly be using Foundations, with the occasional Modern Horizons pack thrown in for spice), and you can only use cards from that pack to upgrade your deck. You can also trade with other players if that’s your thing. Basic lands are fair game—you can add or swap those freely. The goal here is to keep things grounded. This isn’t about finding the best combo or most efficient win condition. It’s about making a deck you love and slowly shaping it over time.
To help keep things honest and low-maintenance, we’ll give you a free 400-count card box when you join, and your deck stays at the shop. You can show up, play, and not worry about having to remember what you swapped in or out midweek. If you miss a week or join later in the season, no worries—you can buy the previous packs to catch up. You can also come and go as your schedule allows. This is meant to be easy to jump into, not another thing to stress over.
And if you’re not sure you want to join just yet? You can still drop in with a casual or precon-level deck and get in a game if there’s space at a table. No need to commit right away. Try it out, see if you like it. If you do, grab a deck and hop on board.
This format is about building a healthy Commander community. One where the pressure to optimize disappears, and everyone’s on the same page. It’s a way to play regularly, try new cards, and support the store without breaking the bank or getting power-creeped out of the fun. We’ll be announcing the start date and weekly schedule soon. In the meantime, if this sounds like something you’d be into—or if you have suggestions—let us know. We’re excited to get this going and can’t wait to see what kind of decks grow out of it.
Keep an eye on our Schedule and Events to see when Commander starts!

How to Prepare for the Warlord’s Gauntlet League
How to Prepare for the Warlord’s Gauntlet League
With the Warlord’s Gauntlet League fast approaching at Wandering Adventures, now is the time to get organized. Whether you’re a veteran of the tabletop or newer to competitive play, preparation is key to getting the most out of each event day. This guide walks you through the essentials to help you arrive ready and focused.
1. Build and Prepare Your Army List
One of the most important steps is preparing a legal, streamlined, and adaptable 2000-point Strike Force army list. Since pairings for Round 1 are random, your army should be ready to face anything—from durable gunlines to hyper-mobile melee threats.
Tips for success:
Use the latest points and rules from Games Workshop (especially from the latest Balance Dataslate).
Don’t overly skew your list for a single matchup type; you’ll likely face a range of armies.
Bring redundancy in key roles—don’t hinge your game plan on a single unit doing all the work.
Double check your list format and validation using Best Coast Pairings (BCP). Lists must be submitted by 11:59 PM the Thursday before each event, or you risk a penalty.
2. Get Rested and Arrive On Time
It’s easy to underestimate how mentally demanding two games of Warhammer 40K can be in a single day. Make sure to:
Get a solid night’s sleep before the event.
Eat beforehand or bring snacks.
Show up early to register, unpack, and settle in. Rushing into Game 1 can set the tone for an unsteady day.
3. Make a Game-Day Checklist
Every Warhammer event veteran has made the mistake of forgetting something. Avoid stress with a simple checklist:
Essentials:
Printed or digital copy of your list
Your fully assembled army
Dice, measuring tools, objective markers
Rulebook, Codex, FAQs
Any stratagem or reference cards you use frequently
Glue and super glue (for emergency repairs)
Pen and paper or score tracking app
Your phone charger (especially if using digital rules)
Optional but useful:
Dice tray
Chess clock (if you want to use one)
Snacks and water bottle
Transport case for your army
4. Paint What You Can
While fully painted armies are not required during qualifiers, painted models do earn you bonus points and contribute to a better table presence. It’s worth putting in the effort to paint what you can before each event. Focus on units that will be on the table every game: warlords, linchpin units, or vehicles.
The Final Showdown does require fully painted armies, so starting early gives you time to build toward that standard.
5. Review the Missions and Terrain Layouts
The league uses preset terrain and assigned missions each event day. Reviewing those ahead of time will help with deployment planning, secondary selection, and first-turn strategies. If you know what to expect, you’ll start Game 1 with confidence instead of scrambling to react.
Final Thoughts
The Warlord’s Gauntlet League is meant to challenge your strategic skill—but also to build a fun, competitive community. Preparing ahead of time helps you focus on the game instead of the logistics. Take the time to get your list locked in, pack your materials, and hit the tables ready to lead your forces to victory.

Wandering Adventures Miniature Painting Competi...
Warhammer Painting Competition Recap – May 2025
At Wandering Adventures in Woodbridge, Vaughan, we recently wrapped up our first-ever Warhammer painting competition, and the turnout was incredible. With 23 entries submitted across Warhammer 40K, Kill Team, Age of Sigmar, and Warcry, the competition showcased a wide range of skill levels, painting styles, and creative approaches.
From the dark corners of the far future to the shifting battlegrounds of the Mortal Realms, each model reflected the passion and effort of its creator. One faction stood out among the rest — World Eaters, with 4 entries, claimed the title of most-represented warband this round.
How Judging Worked
To ensure fairness and encourage strong hobby fundamentals, all entries in our miniature painting contest were judged using the same five scoring categories:
Clean Painting – line control, brushwork, and finish
Highlighting & Shading – depth, lighting, and tonal contrast
Color Choice & Composition – how well colors worked together
Basing / Presentation – how the base supported the miniature’s theme
Overall Impact – visual strength and storytelling in the model
Each miniature was evaluated out of 25 points. While full scores remain private, this system helped us celebrate hobbyists at all levels while recognizing technical execution.
Painting Takeaways & Tips
As a Warhammer hobby store, we’re always excited to see local painters push their skills — and there’s always room to grow. Here are a few things that stood out from this event, and how to improve for the next Warhammer painting competition near you:
1. Basing Matters
Models with dynamic or well-painted bases made a stronger first impression. Even basic textured paint or a simple drybrush can create depth.
2. Clean Edges Win Points
Neat linework, especially on armor and trim, often made the difference between “good” and “great.”
3. Color Contrast
High-contrast schemes — light vs. dark, warm vs. cool — helped models stand out from across the room.
4. Avoid Over-Glossing
Several entries suffered from shiny finishes. A matte varnish or controlled gloss placement helps readability and polish.
5. Don’t Skip the Final Details
Eyes, pouches, lenses, and weapons all count. A few final brush strokes can push a piece over the line.
Whether you’re new to painting or looking to level up, these are valuable principles for any miniature painting competition or just for your personal army.
What’s Next?
We’re already planning the next painting competition at Wandering Adventures, with new themes, categories, and maybe even community voting. These events are a great chance to push your skills, connect with other painters, and see what your fellow hobbyists are working on.

Tips for Entering Our Painting Competition (and...
Tips for Entering Our Painting Competition (and Maybe Even Winning It)
We’re excited to be running another painting competition here at Wandering Adventures. This time, it’s all about the best single miniature. Whether you’re a first-time entrant or someone who’s been slinging paint for years, here are a few tips to help you put your best work forward.
First off, the basics:
Entries are due by May 31st.
One entry per person.
No commission work — this has to be your own painting.
No recycled models from previous contests.
Your model has to be from Warhammer 40K, Kill Team, Age of Sigmar, or Warcry.
It’s totally free to enter.
Now, onto the good stuff — how to impress the judges. We’ll be looking at each entry across a few key areas. Here’s what those mean in plain terms and how you can aim to score well in each.
Clean Painting
This is about the basics. Neat lines, solid base coats, no paint on places it shouldn’t be (looking at you, shoulder pads that are accidentally half-skin tone). If you’re using washes or drybrushing, aim for control and consistency. This doesn’t mean your model has to be perfect, just intentional.
Highlighting & Shading
Take some time to push your highlights and deepen your shadows. Edge highlights go a long way on armored models, while subtle blends can make cloth or skin pop. If you’ve been curious about techniques like glazing or using contrast between warm and cool tones, now’s a good chance to try it.
Color Contrast & Composition
Pick a scheme that stands out, not just in color, but in how it all ties together. Think about how your colors play off one another and avoid everything blending into a single tone. Try adding a splash color for a weapon or detail to draw the eye, and consider how your palette tells a story.
Basing & Presentation
The base doesn’t need to be elaborate, but it should be thoughtful. A textured base, even something as simple as sand and tufts, adds a lot to the final look. Don’t forget to paint the rim — black, brown, or something that complements your model works best.
Overall Impact
This one’s about the whole package. When someone looks at your miniature, does it grab attention? Does it feel like a finished piece, not just a figure from your army? Cohesion, confidence, and creativity go a long way here.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to be a Golden Demon winner to enter — this is about celebrating the miniature painting community and encouraging everyone to push their skills a bit further. Whether you paint for tabletop play or display, we’d love to see what you create.
Bring your entry to Wandering Adventures (located at 7766 Martin Grove Road, Unit 5) by May 31st. If you’ve got questions or just want to chat about color schemes, drop by the store or message us online.
See you (and your miniature) soon.

Creating a Character For Dungeons & Dragons
Creating a Character in Dungeons & Dragons
One of the most exciting parts of playing Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) is creating a character. Your character is your persona in the game world, shaping how you interact with the story, other players, and the challenges ahead. Whether you’re new to the game or a veteran looking to refine your approach, this guide will walk you through the key steps of building a compelling and effective character.
Step 1: Choose a Race
D&D offers a variety of races, each with unique abilities, lore, and cultural backgrounds. The Player’s Handbook and other sourcebooks provide numerous options. Here are the core races:
Common Races: Human, Dwarf, Elf, Halfling
Uncommon Races: Dragonborn, Gnome, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Tiefling
Expanded Races (from additional sourcebooks): Aarakocra, Aasimar, Bugbear, Centaur, Changeling, Deep Gnome, Duergar, Eladrin, Firbolg, Genasi (Air, Earth, Fire, Water), Gith (Githyanki, Githzerai), Goblin, Goliath, Grung, Hobgoblin, Kenku, Kobold, Lizardfolk, Minotaur, Orc, Satyr, Shadar-Kai, Shifter, Tabaxi, Tortle, Triton, Warforged, Yuan-Ti Pureblood, and many more.
Consider how your character’s race influences their abilities and personality. A Dwarf’s resilience makes them excellent fighters, while a Gnome’s intelligence is useful for spellcasters.
Step 2: Pick a Class
Your class determines your character’s role in the game, their abilities, and how they approach combat and problem-solving. Here are the official classes:
Martial Classes: Barbarian, Fighter, Monk, Ranger, Rogue
Spellcasting Classes: Bard, Cleric, Druid, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
Hybrid Classes: Paladin (mix of martial and divine magic), Artificer (technology and magic combined)
Each class has unique mechanics and strengths, so think about what kind of experience you want from the game. A Fighter excels in weapon combat, while a Cleric can heal allies and wield divine magic.
Step 3: Select a Background
Backgrounds add depth to your character, providing proficiencies, equipment, and roleplaying elements. Here are the standard backgrounds from the Player’s Handbook and other sourcebooks:
Common Backgrounds: Acolyte, Charlatan, Criminal, Entertainer, Folk Hero, Guild Artisan, Hermit, Noble, Outlander, Sage, Sailor, Soldier, Urchin
Expanded Backgrounds (from additional sourcebooks): Archaeologist, City Watch, Clan Crafter, Cloistered Scholar, Courtier, Faction Agent, Far Traveler, Gladiator, Guild Merchant, Haunted One, Inheritor, Knight, Knight of the Order, Marine, Mercenary Veteran, Noble (Variant: Knight), Pirate, Plane-Touched, Sage (Variant: Librarian), Sailor (Variant: Pirate), Secret Agent, Shipwright, Smuggler, Urban Bounty Hunter, Uthgardt Tribe Member, Waterdhavian Noble
Consider how your background influences your character’s motivations and relationships with the world.
Step 4: Determine Ability Scores
Ability scores define your character’s strengths and weaknesses. There are three common methods to generate scores: rolling dice, using the standard array, or point buy. Each score impacts different aspects of play:
Strength (STR): Important for Barbarians, Fighters, and Paladins who rely on melee combat.
Dexterity (DEX): Crucial for Rogues, Monks, and Rangers for agility, stealth, and ranged combat. Also affects AC for lightly armored characters.
Constitution (CON): Beneficial for all classes, as it determines hit points and resilience.
Intelligence (INT): Essential for Wizards and useful for Artificers and certain skill checks like Investigation.
Wisdom (WIS): Important for Clerics, Druids, and Rangers, affecting spellcasting and perception-based skills.
Charisma (CHA): Key for Bards, Sorcerers, Paladins, and Warlocks, influencing spellcasting and social interactions.
Make sure your primary stats align with your class—Wizards need high Intelligence, while Rogues benefit from Dexterity.
Step 5: Choose Skills, Feats, and Equipment
Your character will have proficiencies in specific skills based on their class and background. These skills help with everything from persuading NPCs to spotting hidden dangers. At higher levels, you may also gain feats, which provide additional abilities or bonuses. Finally, select starting equipment based on your class and background or roll for starting gold to purchase gear.
Step 6: Consider Multi-Classing and Level Progression
As your character gains experience, they level up and gain new abilities. Some players choose to multi-class, taking levels in multiple classes to create unique combinations. However, multi-classing comes with trade-offs, as you may delay access to higher-level abilities in your primary class. Consider the synergy between classes before making this choice.
For example:
A Fighter/Rogue gains additional combat versatility and sneak attack damage.
A Sorcerer/Warlock benefits from combining spellcasting resources for high efficiency.
A Cleric/Paladin becomes a resilient frontliner with divine magic and smiting power.
If you prefer to focus on one class, consider how its subclasses (archetypes) shape your character’s progression and abilities.
Step 7: Define Your Character’s Personality and Goals
Mechanics are important, but personality and motivation bring your character to life. Consider their alignment, ideals, bonds, and flaws. What drives them? Do they seek revenge, adventure, or redemption? How do they interact with others? A well-developed character adds depth to roleplaying and makes for a more immersive experience.
Step 8: Explore Homebrew Options (Optional)
Many players and Dungeon Masters enjoy incorporating homebrew content—custom races, classes, spells, or backgrounds created by the community. If your DM allows it, homebrew content can add variety and personalization to your character. However, make sure any homebrew choices are balanced and fit within the campaign’s setting.
Step 9: Work With Your Dungeon Master
Before finalizing your character, discuss your ideas with the Dungeon Master (DM). They might have suggestions for fitting your character into the campaign’s setting or adapting certain traits for balance. Collaboration ensures your character’s story aligns with the world and makes for a richer experience.
Final Thoughts
Creating a D&D character is more than just numbers on a sheet—it’s about crafting a persona that fits into the world of storytelling and adventure. By considering both mechanics and personality, you’ll develop a character that’s fun to play and adds to the game’s depth. Whether it’s your first character or your fiftieth, take your time, experiment, and enjoy the process.

Wrath & Glory is a tabletop RPG set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Unlike traditional wargames like Warhammer 40K, which focus on large-scale battles, Wrath & Glory zooms in on individual characters and their struggles within the Imperium (or beyond). Players can take on a variety of roles, from loyal Imperial citizens and Space Marines to rogue traders, psykers, or even Xenos operatives—depending on the tone of the campaign.
The game is flexible, allowing for different styles of play. You can engage in political intrigue in the halls of the Inquisition, explore ancient ruins in search of forbidden knowledge, or simply fight for survival against the horrors of the Warp.
Core Mechanics
Wrath & Glory uses a d6-based dice pool system that is designed to be fast-paced and cinematic. Here’s a breakdown of the key mechanics:
1. Dice Pool System
When a character attempts an action, they roll a number of six-sided dice (d6) based on their attributes and skills. The goal is to roll enough successes (typically a 4 or higher) to meet or exceed the required difficulty number (DN) set by the Game Master (GM).
Icons: Rolls of 4 or 5 count as standard successes.
Exalted Icons: Rolls of 6 count as two successes and generate bonus effects.
Wrath Dice: One die in every roll is the special Wrath Die. Rolling a 6 on this die can trigger a narrative advantage, while rolling a 1 can cause complications.
2. Wrath, Glory, and Ruin
These three mechanics create the dynamic, cinematic moments that define Wrath & Glory.
Wrath: Players earn Wrath points through roleplaying and dramatic actions. These can be spent to reroll failed dice, boost narrative moments, or even influence the story in meaningful ways.
Glory: A shared resource for the party, Glory is generated by rolling Exalted Icons. It can be spent to increase damage, seize the initiative in combat, or fuel heroic moments.
Ruin: The GM has their own pool of Ruin, which they use to complicate the players’ plans, empower enemies, or escalate conflicts.
3. Combat and Conflict
Combat in Wrath & Glory is deadly and tactical, emphasizing the sheer brutality of the 41st millennium.
Initiative: Players can spend Glory to manipulate turn order, adding a layer of strategy.
Weapons and Armor: The game faithfully translates 40K’s iconic weaponry, from chainswords to lasguns, with devastating critical effects.
Perils of the Warp: Psykers wield immense power but risk disaster with every spell, possibly attracting daemonic attention.
Character Creation and Archetypes
One of the strengths of Wrath & Glory is its broad selection of playable archetypes. Instead of rigid classes, players choose a tier that determines their power level and select an archetype within that tier.
Tiers of Play:
Tier 1: Low-level operatives like Imperial Guardsmen, mercenaries, or low-ranking Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priests.
Tier 2: More experienced individuals, such as Inquisitorial acolytes, Rogue Trader crew members, or battle-ready Sisters of Battle.
Tier 3: Elite warriors like Space Marines, senior Inquisitors, or high-ranking Astra Militarum officers.
Tier 4+: Legendary figures such as Deathwatch veterans or Chaos Lords (often for high-stakes, short-term campaigns).
Each archetype provides a foundation, but players can customize their characters with unique skills, talents, and wargear to fit their playstyle.
If you’re looking for a way to experience the grimdark future of Warhammer 40K beyond just reading the lore or playing the miniatures game, Wrath & Glory is a great option. Whether you’re uncovering ancient secrets, taking on dangerous missions, or just trying to survive in a hostile galaxy, the game offers plenty of opportunities for epic storytelling and action-packed gameplay. So grab some dice, gather your warband, and dive into the 41st millennium—you might not make it out alive, but you'll have a great time trying!

5 Tools Every Hobbyist Should Own (and How to U...
As a tabletop hobbyist, there comes a point when basic tools like clippers, hobby knives, and brushes aren’t enough to take your projects to the next level. Whether you’re building intricate models, painting advanced techniques, or diving into conversions, upgrading your toolkit can save you time and improve your results. Here are five intermediate-level tools that every hobbyist should consider adding to their arsenal—and how to make the most of them.
1. Pin Vise (Hand Drill)
A pin vise is an invaluable tool for drilling precise holes in miniatures, particularly for pinning parts together or creating dynamic effects like bullet holes. Pinning involves inserting a small metal rod (like a paper clip or brass rod) between two parts of a model to strengthen the bond, especially for larger or heavier pieces.
Why You Need It:
Prevents fragile models from breaking.
Opens up possibilities for converting miniatures (e.g., repositioning arms or adding custom elements).
How to Use It:
Select a drill bit that matches your pin material’s diameter.
Mark the center of the area you’ll drill with a hobby knife to keep the bit steady.
Drill slowly and steadily to avoid damaging the miniature. For resin or metal models, take extra care to avoid cracking or overheating the material.
Pro Tip: Keep a few sizes of brass rods or paper clips on hand to match different projects.
Miniature and Model Drill
2. Wet Palette
If you’ve been painting miniatures without a wet palette, you’ve been missing out on smoother blends and longer-lasting paint. A wet palette keeps acrylic paints moist for extended periods, making advanced techniques like glazing and wet blending far easier.
Why You Need It:
Saves paint and prevents waste.
Keeps paints workable for hours (or even days with proper sealing).
Makes blending and layering smoother and more consistent.
How to Use It:
Fill the palette’s base with a layer of water.
Place the provided sponge or a piece of baking parchment on top.
Add your paint onto the parchment; the moisture will keep it from drying out.
Pro Tip: You can make a DIY wet palette with a shallow plastic container, a sponge, and parchment paper if you’re on a budget.
Wet Palette
3. Sculpting Tools
Whether you’re filling gaps with green stuff or sculpting entirely new elements, a set of sculpting tools is a must for hobbyists looking to customize their miniatures. These tools help shape, smooth, and detail putty or other modeling materials.
Why You Need Them:
Seamlessly fill gaps in models or bases.
Add unique details to miniatures, like fur, armor plating, or facial expressions.
Create custom bases or terrain features.
How to Use Them:
Use a flat tool to press and smooth putty into gaps.
A pointed tool or needle can add fine details like rivets or fur texture.
Keep tools lubricated with a bit of water or petroleum jelly to prevent the putty from sticking.
Pro Tip: Silicone-tipped tools are fantastic for smooth finishes and organic shapes.
Sculpting Tools
4. Airbrush
While an airbrush is an investment, it’s a game-changer for painting miniatures. Perfect for base-coating, creating smooth gradients, and applying effects like object-source lighting (OSL), an airbrush can dramatically speed up your workflow and elevate your results.
Why You Need It:
Provides even coverage, especially on large models or terrain.
Achieves smooth transitions for techniques like zenithal highlighting or blending.
Saves time compared to traditional brushwork for large-scale projects.
How to Use It:
Thin your paints to the consistency of milk using airbrush thinner.
Practice on spare materials to perfect your control and air pressure settings.
Regularly clean your airbrush to avoid clogs and ensure longevity.
Pro Tip: Start with an entry-level airbrush and compressor combo to learn the basics before upgrading to high-end equipment.
5. Magnifying Lamp or Headband
As you tackle more detailed painting or assembly, a magnifying lamp or headband becomes a crucial tool for reducing eye strain and achieving precision. These tools offer hands-free magnification and proper lighting, which is essential for intricate details like eyes, freehand designs, or tiny conversions.
Why You Need It:
Enhances visibility for tiny details.
Reduces fatigue during long hobby sessions.
Helps spot imperfections in assembly or painting.
How to Use It:
Position the lamp to minimize shadows on your workspace.
Adjust the magnification level to suit your comfort and the task at hand.
Use the lamp’s built-in lighting for consistent brightness.
Pro Tip: For portable magnification, a headband with LED lights is a versatile alternative to a stationary lamp.
Honorable Mentions:
Hobby Saw: For cutting through thicker plastic or resin.
Paint Shaker: To ensure even consistency in paints, especially older ones.
Clamping Tweezers: To hold small parts in place while gluing or painting.
By investing in these intermediate-level tools, you’ll not only enhance the quality of your projects but also make your hobby time more enjoyable and efficient. If you’re looking to pick up any of these tools, drop by Wandering Adventures, and we’ll help you find the perfect addition to your kit!

Building a Hobby Routine: Tips for Painting Min...
Building a Hobby Routine: Tips for Painting Miniatures
Painting miniatures is a cornerstone of the Warhammer 40K and tabletop gaming hobby. Whether you're bringing your Space Marines to life or adding detail to your Tyranids, establishing a painting routine can make the process enjoyable and rewarding. At Wandering Adventures, we support hobbyists at every level, and we’ve put together some tips to help you build a routine that keeps you motivated and productive.
1. Set Small, Achievable Goals
Starting a big project like a Warhammer 40K army can feel overwhelming, so break it into smaller tasks.
Focus on one squad at a time. For example, start with a Tactical Squad for your Ultramarines or a Genestealer Brood for your Tyranids.
Plan your sessions: base coat on one day, shading on another, and details on a third.
This method helps you see progress without getting bogged down.
2. Organize Your Workspace
A clean and organized painting station can make a world of difference.
Use tools like paint racks or trays to keep everything within reach.
Ensure you have proper lighting—natural light or a daylight lamp works best for seeing true colors.
Check out our selection of Army Painter Hobby Tools for equipment to improve your setup.
DONT BE MESSY LIKE ME
3. Invest in Quality Paints
Using high-quality paints can elevate your results and make painting more enjoyable. Some top recommendations:
Vallejo Game Color Range: A new line of paints with exceptional coverage and vibrant hues, perfect for gamers and hobbyists.
Games Workshop’s Citadel Paints: The gold standard for miniatures, known for their durability and rich pigment.
Experimenting with these paints can help you find the perfect palette for your miniatures.
4. Set Aside Regular Painting Time
Consistency is key when building a hobby routine.
Schedule short sessions, like 30 minutes a few times a week.
Turn it into a relaxing ritual by listening to music, podcasts, or battle reports from Warhammer 40K while you paint.
5. Master New Techniques
As you progress, try advanced techniques to elevate your miniatures:
Dry brushing for adding subtle highlights.
Edge highlighting for crisp, clean details.
Glazing to create smooth color transitions.
Don't be afraid to experiment—practice makes perfect!

The Grey Knights: Daemon Hunters of Warhammer 40K
The Grey Knights: Daemon Hunters of Warhammer 40K
The Grey Knights are among the most enigmatic and revered factions in the Warhammer 40K universe. As the Imperium's secretive daemon hunters, they serve a singular purpose: the eradication of Chaos. Shrouded in mystery and clad in silver power armor inscribed with sacred wards, the Grey Knights embody purity, discipline, and unwavering dedication to their holy mission.
Origins of the Grey Knights
The Grey Knights were founded in the shadow of the Horus Heresy, created by the Emperor himself alongside Malcador the Sigillite. As an elite Chapter of Space Marines, they differ significantly from others within the Adeptus Astartes. Every Grey Knight is a psyker, trained to wield the power of the Warp against its most dangerous entities: daemons.
The Chapter's existence is kept secret even from other Space Marine Chapters. Operating under the Ordo Malleus, a branch of the Inquisition, they answer to no one but the High Lords of Terra. This secrecy ensures their missions, which often involve purging entire worlds to contain daemonic incursions, remain free from political or military interference.
The Tools of Daemon Hunting
The Grey Knights' equipment is as extraordinary as their mission. Each warrior wields a Nemesis Force Weapon, a psychically attuned blade or staff capable of cutting through even the most resilient of foes. Their Aegis Power Armor is engraved with protective wards, offering resistance to psychic attacks and daemonic corruption.
Their psychic abilities are unparalleled, allowing them to project force, banish daemons, and shield themselves from harm. Unlike most factions, Grey Knights incorporate their psychic might into their tactical doctrine, making them formidable in both melee and ranged combat.
Notable Characters
Several iconic figures have emerged from the ranks of the Grey Knights, each contributing to the Chapter's storied legacy:
Kaldor DraigoSupreme Grand Master Kaldor Draigo is a legend within the Grey Knights. Draigo famously banished the daemon prince M'kar in single combat, carving the names of the fallen into the daemon's heart. Trapped in the Warp, Draigo continues to wage an eternal battle against the denizens of Chaos, carving a path of defiance across the Immaterium.
Castellan Garran CroweWarden of the Black Blade of Antwyr, Garran Crowe exemplifies the Grey Knights' purity. The blade, an artifact of immense corruption, whispers promises of power to its bearer. Despite this, Crowe remains untainted, using the weapon as a tool to lure and destroy daemons.
Brother-Captain SternKnown for his prescience and ability to foresee events, Brother-Captain Stern has fought in countless campaigns against Chaos. His presence often foils the plans of his enemies, earning him a reputation as a harbinger of divine intervention.
The Grey Knights in Literature
The lore of the Grey Knights is richly explored in Warhammer 40K literature. One of the most acclaimed series is The Grey Knights trilogy by Ben Counter. These novels delve into the lives of individual knights, the horrors they face, and the immense sacrifices required to uphold their mission. Titles like Hammer of Daemons and Dark Adeptus provide an in-depth look at their battles against Chaos.
Additionally, the older Warhammer 40K Codex: Grey Knights is a treasure trove of lore, art, and tactical insights, perfect for players and lore enthusiasts alike.
Building Your Grey Knights Army
If you’re inspired by the noble mission of the Grey Knights, building an army is a rewarding challenge. With a small model count but immense power, they are ideal for players who prefer elite units and strategic play.
As you assemble your force, consider:
Paladins and Terminators: These heavily armored warriors are the backbone of many Grey Knight forces.
Dreadknights: Towering war machines piloted by Grey Knights, ideal for dealing with larger threats.
Strike Squads: Flexible troops capable of teleporting across the battlefield.
To find all the kits, paints, and books you need to begin your Grey Knights journey, check out our curated collection here.
The Grey Knights are a beacon of hope in the grim darkness of the far future, a testament to the Imperium's unwavering resolve against Chaos. The Legacy of Inquisitor Eisenhorn: Unraveling ...
The Legacy of Inquisitor Eisenhorn: Unraveling Mystery and Chaos in the Warhammer 40K Universe
Welcome to Wandering Adventures, your local Warhammer 40K shop in Woodbridge! Today, we’re diving deep into one of the most complex and compelling figures in the Warhammer 40K universe: Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn. If you're looking to add something thrilling to your Warhammer lore collection or pick up some 40K products, be sure to check out our selection online!
Who is Gregor Eisenhorn?
Eisenhorn is an Inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos, tasked with rooting out threats to humanity in the vast and unforgiving galaxy of the 41st Millennium. He’s featured in a celebrated trilogy by author Dan Abnett, known for bringing layers of complexity, moral ambiguity, and a touch of detective noir to the Warhammer 40K world. Eisenhorn is driven, resourceful, and, at times, ruthless. But his journey through loyalty, sacrifice, and doubt also makes him profoundly relatable—something rare in a universe dominated by monstrous Xenos, zealous Space Marines, and power-hungry Chaos cultists.
Be sure to explore our range of Warhammer 40K products to start building an army or expanding your lore collection.
Eisenhorn’s Transformation: Purity, Pragmatism, and the Path to Radicalism
Eisenhorn’s character arc is one of the most fascinating transformations in Warhammer 40K. He starts out as a puritan, determined to uphold the Emperor’s will without compromise. His resolve is unwavering, his methods are scrupulous, and he despises the taint of Chaos. But his exposure to the galaxy’s grim realities soon begins to shift his worldview.
Over the course of his missions, Eisenhorn encounters countless horrors, from powerful psykers to Chaos-infected relics. With each encounter, he questions whether the rigid, puritanical approach truly serves the Imperium’s best interests. By the end of his story, Eisenhorn’s willingness to embrace "radical" tactics sets him apart from most Inquisitors—highlighting the eternal struggle between duty and personal morals that defines Warhammer 40K. This inner conflict makes him one of the Warhammer universe’s most nuanced and human characters.
To follow Eisenhorn’s journey, consider picking up a copy of Xenos, Malleus, and Hereticus, the core books of the Eisenhorn trilogy. You can find our selection of Black Library novels HERE.
Eisenhorn and the Ordo Xenos: A Dangerous Profession
As part of the Ordo Xenos, Eisenhorn’s primary mission is to eliminate alien threats. However, his enemies aren’t just aliens—his dealings often bring him face-to-face with traitors and heretics, many of whom have fallen under the sway of Chaos. This dual role pits him against both external enemies and internal corruption, revealing the Imperium’s vulnerability to moral decay.
Eisenhorn’s Encounter with the Daemonhost Cherubael
One of the defining moments in Eisenhorn’s life is his confrontation with Cherubael, a powerful Daemonhost who becomes both his adversary and reluctant ally. In Xenos, Eisenhorn first encounters Cherubael in a horrific battle that forces him to confront his own beliefs and tactics. Binding a daemon into a human host is viewed as heretical and deeply dangerous, yet Eisenhorn chooses to bind Cherubael rather than destroy him, seeing the tactical advantage in controlling such power.
This decision is a critical turning point, marking Eisenhorn’s initial steps towards becoming a "radical" Inquisitor—one willing to wield dark forces to protect the Imperium. Cherubael’s presence throughout Eisenhorn’s journey adds a layer of tension and constant danger, as the Daemonhost’s influence tempts Eisenhorn to compromise his own values. Cherubael’s ongoing presence also brings intense moral complexity to the story, as Eisenhorn’s reliance on a daemon forces readers to consider the blurred line between righteousness and corruption.
The Investigation of the Necroteuch Cult
Another pivotal event in Eisenhorn’s career is his relentless pursuit of the Necroteuch, an ancient and forbidden text that holds the key to terrible powers. In Xenos, this artifact becomes the central focus of his investigation as he hunts down a cult dedicated to the text’s preservation and usage. The cult’s members range from power-hungry nobles to corrupt officials, all of whom are willing to sacrifice humanity for the Necroteuch’s dark promises. Eisenhorn’s investigation leads him through a web of deceit, murder, and betrayal, pushing his investigative skills to their limits.
The search for the Necroteuch puts Eisenhorn in conflict with powerful figures who see his work as a threat, as well as other Inquisitors with different moral and ideological viewpoints. The intrigue and action surrounding this investigation make it one of the most gripping parts of the Eisenhorn series, showcasing the darker side of the Imperium and the constant threat of corruption within its ranks.
Why Eisenhorn is Perfect for New and Veteran Fans Alike
Eisenhorn’s journey is both relatable and profoundly complex, which is why he's ideal for introducing new fans to the Warhammer 40K universe while offering veterans a rich, thought-provoking story. The New Kill Team Edition: What’s Working, What...
The New Kill Team Edition: What’s Working, What’s Neutral
With the launch of the Hivestorm edition of Kill Team, Games Workshop has brought in some fresh changes, exciting new terrain, and two distinctive teams that dive into the heart of 40K’s gritty skirmishes. As I've been test running the new edition, I thought it’d be helpful to dive into what I personally like, don’t mind, and am not so thrilled about in this latest edition.
Check out our Kill Team stock HERE
What I Like: New Mechanics and Smarter Options
1. First Turn Order Change
One of the biggest positive changes in Hivestorm is the adjustment to first turn orders. Now, you have the flexibility to adjust your orders on the first turn when you activate an agent. This is a real game-changer, especially for players who, like me, sometimes need that extra flexibility to recover from any pre-game miscalculations or unpredictable setups. With this change, you’re not instantly punished if you’ve misjudged an opening move or positioned a model less than perfectly. Instead, you get an additional chance to adjust on the fly, making the first turn feel more adaptable and strategic.
It’s a small shift in mechanics, but it genuinely opens up the gameplay, making each skirmish feel more responsive and tactical from the very first moves. I’ve found that this change helps mitigate early mistakes and gives both players a better opportunity to adapt without being stuck in a poor setup.
2. Organized Terrain and Clearer Rules
Hivestorm brings with it a whole new set of terrain and some clarified terrain rules, which have given the game a nice refresh. This new organization of terrain effects really contributes to making each battlefield unique and helps create a consistent framework across games. In the past, there’s sometimes been a sense of improvisation around how terrain should be interpreted (and it hasn’t always been smooth!). But now, the updated terrain rules feel more like an integral part of the game.
The new terrain also adds a lot to the aesthetic. Hivestorm’s Hive-themed terrain is gritty, immersive, and quite detailed, which has been fun to assemble and set up. The variety in structures, obstacles, and cover options really enhances each mission’s atmosphere and immersion.
3. 3 Dice Defense Rolls
The move to a standard 3-dice defense roll is subtle but adds a good layer of consistency across agents, and I find myself appreciating it more with every game. It might seem small, but there’s a bit more comfort in knowing each agent has a solid starting point. This update allows more focus on each unit’s specific strengths and weaknesses rather than being surprised by unusual or weak defense stats. The system feels cleaner, and there’s a bit more predictability to the outcomes, which makes the overall game experience smoother and more reliable.
What I Don’t Mind: Resetting Teams and Stats
1. Meta Shake-up with Team Resets
One of the more neutral aspects of Hivestorm has been the reset of team stats and abilities across the board. At first, it was a bit of a shock, as some of the strategies and preferred tactics were reset and took some adjusting. That said, the intention behind this reset is understandable. Games Workshop wanted to streamline and re-balance teams, and for the most part, this has worked to even out the meta and give all players a fair shot. Powerful teams are now less overwhelming, and teams that struggled in previous versions have gained new life, encouraging players to diversify their choices and adapt their playstyles.
Of course, no system is perfect. While the reset definitely has merit, it’s also created a few new imbalances that will take some time to shake out. It’s a balancing act that Games Workshop is likely to address over time, but for now, we’re seeing the start of a new meta, with some teams adjusting faster than others. I’d say this aspect falls squarely in the “don’t mind” category because the pros and cons balance out for the most part.
What I Don’t Like: Cover and Obscuring Rules
1. The Complexity of Cover and Obscuring Rules
Let’s talk about cover and obscuring rules. This has been a point of contention in Kill Team for a while, and while Hivestorm brings us a bit closer to clarity, there’s still some work to be done. Cover and obscuring are core elements that players often need to calculate quickly, but the system remains a bit unintuitive. For both new and experienced players, determining the exact impact of cover can slow down the flow of play.
It’s worth noting that the rules have been improved, but we’re not quite at a “clean” version yet. Some of the cover rules remain just convoluted enough that it requires a moment’s thought, often resulting in minor delays or disagreements during gameplay. Games Workshop is clearly making strides in the right direction, and I’m hopeful that future adjustments will keep building on this.
In the meantime, I’ll say that it’s a drawback, albeit one that is slowly improving. More refinement on these rules would go a long way in making the game more intuitive, especially for those who are newer to Kill Team.
Final Thoughts on Hivestorm
Overall, the Hivestorm edition of Kill Team is an exciting new release with loads of potential. The revamped terrain, more streamlined defense mechanics, and adaptable turn orders are huge positives. These changes make the game feel more balanced and tactical, allowing players to focus on the strategic aspects of gameplay. For players like me, who are looking for a dynamic yet balanced skirmish game, this version has really dialed in some key improvements.
The reset of team stats is another big shift, with a mix of advantages and minor drawbacks. It shakes up the meta, pushing players out of their comfort zones and encouraging new strategies. While it’s a bit disorienting at first, this adjustment seems to have revitalized the game and brought some older, less-played teams back into the spotlight.
As for the negatives, the cover and obscuring rules remain the main issue. Games Workshop has taken steps to simplify and clarify these, but the system isn’t quite as intuitive as it could be. With any luck, continued tweaks and community feedback will lead to smoother, more straightforward rules in this area.
If you’re thinking about picking up Hivestorm or revisiting Kill Team, now’s a great time to jump back in. The new edition offers a blend of strategic flexibility and immersion that has something for everyone, whether you’re an experienced player or a newcomer looking to dive into the skirmish-driven world of Kill Team.
As always, happy wargaming, and may your dice rolls bring you glory (or at least fewer critical fails).

The Origins of Space Marines: From Thunder Warr...
The Space Marines, also known as the Adeptus Astartes, are the ultimate warriors of the Imperium of Man. These genetically engineered soldiers are enhanced beyond human limits, built to fight and endure the horrors of the galaxy. Organized into over a thousand Chapters, each with its own traditions and heraldry, the Space Marines represent humanity’s strongest defense against the countless threats lurking in the stars. But their roots stretch back to a darker, more tumultuous time—the Unification Wars on Terra (Earth), when the Emperor of Mankind forged an empire from the ashes of a divided world.
The Thunder Warriors: The First Super Soldiers
Before the creation of the Space Marines, the Emperor's earliest attempts at building superhuman warriors resulted in the Thunder Warriors. These genetically augmented soldiers were instrumental during the Unification Wars in the late 30th Millennium, where they crushed the techno-barbarian tribes and nation-states of Old Earth. Thunder Warriors were renowned for their sheer strength, endurance, and brutality. With the Emperor’s strategic brilliance guiding them, these warriors reshaped Terra under a unified rule, laying the foundation for what would become the Imperium of Man.
However, the Thunder Warriors were far from perfect. Their genetic enhancements came at a cost, often resulting in biological instability and mental deterioration over time. These soldiers were prone to sudden breakdowns, both physical and psychological, making them unreliable in the long term. It became clear that a new, more stable form of superhuman warrior was needed to ensure the Emperor’s vision endured.
The Birth of the Astartes: A New Generation of Warriors
Even while the Thunder Warriors fought on the battlefields of Terra, the Emperor began a new project—one that would yield the Legiones Astartes, or Space Marines. Deep within the secret laboratories beneath the Himalazian Mountains, the Emperor, with the help of captured gene-scientists, experimented with new forms of genetic engineering. His work would culminate in the creation of the Primarchs—20 genetically superior beings designed to lead humanity's armies across the stars.
Though the Primarchs were scattered throughout the galaxy by the dark powers of Chaos, the Emperor pressed on. Using the Primarchs’ genetic material, the first Space Marines were born. Unlike the Thunder Warriors, the Astartes were psychologically stable, loyal, and far more adaptable, making them ideal for the long campaigns of the Emperor's Great Crusade. The Legiones Astartes were divided into 20 distinct Legions, each aligned with the genetic traits of one of the lost Primarchs, giving each Legion its own unique identity.
Replacing the Thunder Warriors
The rise of the Space Marines during the latter stages of the Unification Wars marked the end for the Thunder Warriors. These soldiers, aware of their impending obsolescence and cursed with short lifespans, began to rebel against the Emperor. In response, the Emperor deployed his new Space Marines and the elite Custodians to eliminate the Thunder Warriors. This violent purge ensured that only the most stable and loyal forces remained to serve the Imperium.
The new Space Marines quickly eclipsed their predecessors in both skill and discipline. Their superior training and equipment gave them an edge, while their signature power armor—derived from earlier prototypes used by the Thunder Warriors—offered unparalleled protection. Armed with bolters that fired mass-reactive shells, these warriors became the unstoppable force that carried the Emperor’s banner across the stars.
The Great Crusade and the Founding of the Legions
With the Thunder Warriors gone, the Emperor launched the Great Crusade, a massive campaign to reunite the scattered human worlds under the Imperium's rule. Each of the 20 Space Marine Legions played a critical role in these efforts, conquering world after world and securing compliance from alien species and rebellious human factions. As the Primarchs were rediscovered one by one, they took command of their respective Legions, infusing them with the culture and traditions of their adopted homeworlds.
This process led to the formation of distinct identities within the Legions. For example, the Dark Angels and Space Wolves adopted traditions that reflected their homeworld’s martial customs, while other Legions, like the Luna Wolves, retained strong ties to Terra. These evolving identities shaped the tactics and strategies employed by the Legions throughout the Great Crusade, making each one uniquely suited to particular types of warfare.
From Legions to Chapters
Following the end of the Great Crusade and the catastrophic events of the Horus Heresy, the Legions were broken down into smaller, independent Chapters to prevent any future rebellions. Today, there are over a thousand Space Marine Chapters, each with its own heraldry, traditions, and wargear. These Chapters, such as the Ultramarines, Blood Angels, and Imperial Fists, maintain the legacy of their Primarchs while serving as self-sufficient armies capable of deploying anywhere in the galaxy.
Each Space Marine is a testament to the Emperor’s vision—a genetically enhanced soldier who can survive the most hostile environments, endure unimaginable pain, and emerge victorious against overwhelming odds. Whether engaging in planetary assaults or boarding actions in space, these warriors embody the Emperor’s will. Their power armor not only provides protection but also amplifies their physical strength, turning them into living weapons on the battlefield.
The Legacy of the Thunder Warriors
Though the Thunder Warriors have been consigned to the shadows of history, their legacy remains woven into the fabric of the Imperium. The lessons learned from their failures informed the creation of the Space Marines, making the Astartes the ultimate expression of the Emperor's ambition. Yet, even in the modern era, some within the Imperium whisper of Thunder Warriors who escaped the purge, living as outcasts on the fringes of civilization.
The transformation from Thunder Warriors to Space Marines symbolizes the evolution of the Imperium itself—a journey marked by sacrifice, betrayal, and unyielding determination. As the Adeptus Astartes continue to defend humanity against alien threats, Chaos incursions, and internal strife, they carry the weight of their origins on their armored shoulders.
Conclusion
The history of the Space Marines is a story of ambition, betrayal, and relentless warfare. From the brutal Thunder Warriors of the Unification Wars to the disciplined Astartes Legions that fought in the Great Crusade, each phase of the Imperium’s military evolution has been shaped by both triumph and tragedy. Today, the Chapters of the Adeptus Astartes stand as the Imperium’s first and last line of defense, their warriors embodying the Emperor’s enduring vision for humanity’s survival.
By understanding the origins of the Space Marines, we gain insight into the complex legacy of the Imperium—a history that continues to shape the galaxy-spanning conflicts of the 41st Millennium. The Adeptus Astartes, with their unparalleled strength, loyalty, and skill, remain the guardians of humanity’s future, just as the Thunder Warriors were the architects of its past.

The Ultimate Guide to Building Your First Blood...
Whether you're brand new to Blood Bowl or just need a refresher, building your first team can be a thrilling yet challenging experience. With so many options, skills, and strategies to consider, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. But don't worry—this guide will walk you through the essential steps of creating your Blood Bowl team and getting ready for your first match!
1. Choosing Your Blood Bowl Race
The first and most important decision is selecting your team’s race. Each race has unique strengths, weaknesses, and playstyles. Here’s a quick rundown of all the Blood Bowl races:
Amazons: Agile and versatile, Amazons have Dodge on many players, making them harder to knock down. They're good at avoiding tackles but lack high strength.
Black Orcs: Tough and powerful, Black Orcs excel at grinding down opponents. They’re not the fastest, but they dominate in close combat.
Chaos Chosen: Known for their strength and potential, Chaos teams start with fewer skills but can develop into powerhouses over time.
Chaos Dwarfs: A blend of strength and agility, Chaos Dwarfs combine tough Dwarfs with faster Hobgoblins and the brute strength of Bull Centaurs.
Chaos Renegades: A diverse team with access to many skills and player types. They offer a unique challenge but can be unpredictable.
Dark Elves: Fast and agile, Dark Elves are excellent at both passing and running plays. They’re tougher than other elf teams but still relatively fragile.
Dwarfs: Tough, durable, and slow, Dwarfs excel in grinding opponents down. Their Block and Tackle skills make them great at taking down agile teams.
Elven Union: Highly agile and capable of making stunning plays, but they’re fragile and can struggle against bashy teams.
Goblin: Goblin teams are chaotic, fun, and tricky to play. They rely on secret weapons and crazy plays but are fragile and often outmatched in strength.
Halflings: Weak but surprisingly fun, Halflings rely on Treemen for strength and hope for the best. Great for players who enjoy a challenge and unexpected moments.
High Elves: A more resilient elf team, High Elves combine agility with decent armor, making them capable of handling both passing and running plays.
Humans: A well-rounded team, great for beginners. They offer a mix of speed, strength, and agility, making them versatile on the pitch.
Imperial Nobility: A blend of finesse and resilience, they have unique skills like Fend and Stand Firm, which make them tricky to play against.
Khorne: A new addition, Khorne teams bring an aggressive, bashy playstyle. They have high potential but lack starting skills, making them challenging to master.
Lizardmen: Combining powerful Saurus blockers with speedy Skinks, Lizardmen can dominate both bashy and agile teams if played correctly.
Necromantic Horror: With a mix of Werewolves, Ghouls, and Zombies, this team combines speed and strength with unique regeneration abilities.
Norse: Known for their aggression, Norse teams start with the Block skill on many players, allowing them to brawl effectively from the get-go.
Nurgle: A slow, tough team with disturbing skills that disrupt opponents. They excel at controlling the pitch and shutting down agile teams.
Ogres: Featuring mighty Ogres and fragile Snotlings, Ogre teams rely on brute strength and hope that their big guys perform when needed.
Orcs: Strong and durable, Orcs excel at bashing their way through opponents. They’re slower but can take hits and dish out serious damage.
Skaven: Extremely fast and agile, Skaven can score quickly. However, they’re fragile and can struggle if they get into a brawl.
Snotlings: A chaotic, low-cost team with many secret weapons and quirky players. They’re unpredictable and challenging to win with but can be fun to play.
Tomb Kings: A slow but powerful team with high-strength players like Mummies. They rely on careful positioning and brute force.
Underworld Denizens: A mix of Goblins, Skaven, and a Troll, this team combines agility with a bit of bash but can be unpredictable.
Vampires: A unique team with powerful Vampire players who need Thralls to support them. They have high potential but can be challenging to manage due to Bloodlust.
Wood Elves: Known for their agility and speed, Wood Elves are excellent at dodging and scoring touchdowns but have lower armor, making them more fragile.
Tip: If you’re unsure which race to pick, start with Humans or Orcs, as they offer a balanced experience that helps you learn the basics.
2. Understanding Team Roles
Every Blood Bowl team is made up of different player types, each with a specific role on the field:
Linemen: The backbone of your team, often cheaper and less specialized. They can hold the line and take hits.
Blitzers: Your main attackers, combining speed and strength to hit hard and move quickly.
Throwers: Skilled at passing the ball and crucial for setting up plays.
Catchers: Fast and agile, they’re your go-to players for scoring touchdowns.
Big Guys: Powerful, high-strength players like Trolls or Ogres, who can dominate on the field but are often unpredictable.
Tip: When starting, aim for a balanced team with a good mix of player types, rather than focusing too much on any one role.
3. Managing Your Starting Budget
In Blood Bowl, you start with a set budget of 1,000,000 gold pieces to build your team. Here’s how to allocate your funds wisely:
Players: Invest in essential positions like Blitzers and Throwers. Most starting teams will include 11 players, but consider adding a 12th if your race is prone to injuries (e.g., Skaven or Wood Elves).
Re-Rolls: These allow you to reattempt a failed roll and are incredibly valuable. Aim for 2-3 re-rolls when starting.
Apothecary: Helps prevent serious injuries to your key players. If your team is fragile, consider budgeting for one.
Fan Factor, Assistant Coaches, and Cheerleaders: These are optional but can be useful as your team progresses.
Example Starting Team: Human
4 Blitzers
2 Throwers
2 Catchers
3 Linemen
3 Re-Rolls
4. Developing a Strategy
Your strategy will depend on the strengths and weaknesses of your chosen race. Here’s a basic guide:
Bashy Teams (e.g., Orcs, Dwarfs): Focus on eliminating opponents and controlling the pitch. Prioritize strength and durability.
Agile Teams (e.g., Wood Elves, Skaven): Use speed and agility to avoid contact, dodge tackles, and score quickly.
Balanced Teams (e.g., Humans): Adapt to the opponent’s strategy and exploit their weaknesses.
Tip: Practice makes perfect! Play a few games with your team to discover what works best for you.
5. Learning the Skills
Skills play a vital role in Blood Bowl and can drastically improve a player’s effectiveness. Some essential skills to consider:
Block: Reduces the chance of your player being knocked down when blocking, making it a must-have for Blitzers.
Dodge: Great for Catchers and agile players, this skill allows you to avoid tackles.
Sure Hands: Helps Throwers pick up the ball more reliably.
Mighty Blow: Ideal for bashy teams, this skill increases the chances of injuring your opponent.
Tip: Focus on developing your players' skills over time, especially as they earn experience from games.
6. Preparing for Your First Match
With your team built and your strategy in place, it’s time to hit the pitch! Here are a few final tips before your first game:
Read the Rules: Understanding the core mechanics of Blood Bowl will make your games smoother and more enjoyable.
Stay Flexible: Be prepared to adapt your strategy as the game unfolds. Blood Bowl is unpredictable, and even the best-laid plans can go awry.
Have Fun: Blood Bowl is as much about storytelling and epic moments as it is about winning. Enjoy the experience and the camaraderie of the game.

With the release of Space Marine 2 making waves in the gaming community, there’s never been a better time to dive into the Warhammer 40K universe. While video games offer a thrilling experience, they’re just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the world of Warhammer. If Space Marine 2 has piqued your interest, you might find that collecting and playing with Space Marines in Warhammer 40K offers even more excitement. As your local hobby store in Woodbridge and Vaughan, Wandering Adventures has everything you need to begin your journey into the world of tabletop gaming.
Why Warhammer 40K?
Warhammer 40K is one of the most iconic tabletop games created by Games Workshop. It offers a unique blend of strategy, lore, and creativity that video games simply can’t match. Getting Started with Space Marines
If you're a fan of Space Marine 2, you'll be thrilled to know that the Space Marines are one of the most popular and accessible factions to start with in Warhammer 40K. The Space Marines are the Emperor's finest soldiers, and they come in a wide range of Legions and Chapters, each with its own unique identity, playstyle, and color scheme. Here’s a quick guide to help you choose:
Ultramarines: The quintessential Space Marines, Ultramarines are known for their adaptability and disciplined tactics. If you're new to Warhammer 40K, they’re a great starting point because of their balanced playstyle.
Blood Angels: Renowned for their speed and aggression, Blood Angels excel in close combat. They have a vampiric curse that adds a unique twist to their lore and playstyle, making them ideal for players who prefer an offensive approach.
Dark Angels: Known for their mysterious nature and strong defense, Dark Angels are versatile and can hold their ground against any opponent. They excel at mid-range shooting and have an elite force of Terminators known as the Deathwing.
Space Wolves: The Space Wolves bring a savage, Viking-like aesthetic to the battlefield. They thrive in close combat and have an array of unique units, like Thunderwolf Cavalry, that make them stand out.
Black Templars: For those who want a more zealous, crusading force, the Black Templars are perfect. They favor close combat and have some of the most visually striking models, complete with chains, tabards, and relics.
Imperial Fists: Masters of siege warfare, Imperial Fists are ideal for players who love powerful shooting and fortifying their positions. Their bright yellow armor is also a painter’s challenge!
Salamanders: Known for their affinity with fire and craftsmanship, Salamanders are durable and bring heavy weaponry to the battlefield. Their green armor and draconic motifs make them visually unique.

Get Ready for the New Kill Team Edition
Hey, fellow gamers. If you’ve been following the news about the new Warhammer 40K: Kill Team edition, there are some notable changes that should pique your interest. Edition 3 is here, and it’s bringing some fresh mechanics that could change the way you approach your games. Let’s take a look at what’s new from Edition 2.
Streamlined Gameplay
The gameplay is now smoother, starting with a pre-game roll-off. The winner decides the deployment zone, while the loser gets initiative for Turn 1. The objectives have also been revamped into Objective Ops, Kill Ops, and Tactical Ops, each worth up to 6 VP. You’ll now be focusing on three central objectives, which brings the action closer to the center of the killzone. I kind of liked the spread of objectives before, making some fun one-on-one fights. However, not every team is equal in that sense so maybe the concentration of objectives will help.
Enhanced Faction Diversity
The updates to faction abilities make each team feel more distinct. You earn VPs for taking down enemy operatives based on their size, which means there’s more incentive to target larger foes. This adds a new layer of strategy to the game and should help even the playing field with horde vs elite teams. Around here, Space Marines were quite dominant, so hopefully this allows for other teams like Leagues of Votann get some love.
Customizable Kill Teams
Edition 3 offers greater customization for your squads. You can choose four pieces of equipment from a wider range, including grenades and barricades. Equipment is no longer bound to specific operatives, allowing for more flexibility in your tactical options.
Tactical Choices Matter
The scouting phase now includes three options: Equip, Ploy, or Reposition. This gives you more strategic choices before the battle begins. Plus, you can change your operative orders during the first turning point, which allows for greater adaptability.
Actions and Movement
The action system has seen some significant changes. Repositioning now comes with stricter placement rules, and the new Counteract action replaces Overwatch, enabling operatives to perform any 1AP action with limitations. Also, operatives can pass through friendly bases, which adds new movement possibilities.
Terrain and Cover Dynamics
The rules for obscuring and vantage have been reworked. This was always my biggest issue with Kill Team and it seems like it they’ve made the rules around this a bit cleaner. If you can see a target, you can shoot it, but obscured targets present different challenges. Vantage points can provide light cover and offer advantages for ranged attacks, making battlefield positioning more important.
Weapon Rules Revamp
Weapons have also been updated with new rules. Keywords like Accurate X and Shock introduce fresh dynamics to combat. The new Hot rule allows for double damage under specific conditions, and changes like Punishing and Severe add more tactical depth to weapon choices.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the new Kill Team edition for Warhammer 40K includes several interesting changes that could enhance your gameplay experience. Whether you’re a veteran player or new to the game, these updates offer plenty of opportunities for strategic depth.
So, gather your operatives and prepare for the new era of Kill Team. If you're in Woodbridge, swing by Wandering Adventures to discuss these changes and how they might affect your games.
Join Us at Wandering Adventures
At Wandering Adventures, we’ll be running Learn to Play days for the new Kill Team edition, so whether you’re new to the game or looking to brush up on your skills, this is a great opportunity. We’ll also be hosting a tournament day, where you can put your strategies to the test against other players.

Summer Paint Sale!
Summer is here, and with it comes the perfect excuse to refresh your hobby stash! We're excited to announce a summer sale on three fantastic paint lines at our hobby store: Formula P3 Paint, GreenStuffWorld, and the classic Vallejo Game Color and Model Color ranges. Each of these lines offers unique characteristics that make them perfect for different techniques and styles, so let's dive in and explore what they have to offer.
First up, we have Formula P3 Paint, known for its vibrant colors and smooth blending capabilities. This line is a favorite among miniature painters, and for good reason. With its high pigment load and fine texture, Formula P3 Paint is ideal for creating rich, bold colors that pop on your miniatures. Try using it to create striking contrasts between armor plating, flesh tones, or eye-catching highlights on your models. For a stunning effect, try layering different shades of blue to create a realistic ocean or sky effect on your sci-fi or fantasy pieces.
Next, we have GreenStuffWorld, a brand that's gained popularity among war gamers and collectors alike. Their paints are known for their intense color saturation and durability, making them perfect for creating intricate details and textures on your models. Try using GreenStuffWorld paints to add realistic rust, corrosion, or wear-and-tear effects to your miniatures. You can also use them to create subtle blending effects by layering lighter shades over darker ones.
Last but not least, we have the classic Vallejo Game Color and Model Color ranges. These iconic paints have been a staple in the hobby community for decades, and for good reason. Vallejo paints are renowned for their high-quality pigments and versatility. They're great for creating subtle blends, washes, and drybrushing effects. Try using Vallejo paints to add depth and shading to your miniatures by layering lighter shades over darker ones. You can also use them to create realistic weathering effects by mixing them with mediums like thinner or glaze.
Now that we've explored each of these paint lines, let's talk about some techniques you can use with them. One popular technique is edge highlighting, which involves applying paint to the raised edges of your model's features to create a sense of depth and dimensionality. You can use Formula P3 Paint's fine texture to achieve this effect easily. Another technique is layering, which involves building up layers of paint to create rich, complex colors. GreenStuffWorld paints are perfect for this technique due to their intense color saturation.
Washes are another important technique in miniature painting. Vallejo paints are great for creating subtle washes by mixing them with thinner or glaze. Apply the wash to recessed areas of your model to add depth and shading. Finally, drybrushing is a technique that involves applying paint to the raised surfaces of your model with a almost-dry brush. This creates a textured, worn effect that's perfect for adding realism to your miniatures.
In conclusion, our summer sale on Formula P3 Paint, GreenStuffWorld, and Vallejo Game Color and Model Color ranges offers the perfect opportunity to refresh your hobby stash and try out new techniques. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, these paints offer something for everyone. So why not grab some paints and get creative? Happy painting!

Entries are due by August 26th, with winners announced on August 31st. Entry fee is simply the purchase of an AK Interactive Texture Paste from Wandering Adventures. Let's see those amazing dioramas!
AK Interactive Wargames Terrain
Texture pastes are an essential tool for hobbyists and miniature painters, offering a versatile medium to create realistic and detailed bases for miniatures. These pastes come in various types and textures, allowing you to replicate different terrains and environments with ease.
Desert Sand: Ideal for arid, sandy landscapes.
Mud: Perfect for creating wet, muddy grounds.
Snow: Great for wintry scenes and frosty bases.
Rocky Ground: Excellent for rugged, uneven terrains.
By using texture pastes, you can enhance the realism of your miniature bases, adding depth and character to your models. Simply apply the paste to the base, sculpt or shape it as desired, let it dry, and then paint over it for stunning effects.
Alien World:
Tips for Combining Texture Paste with Other Materials to Enhance Realism
Layering Techniques:
Apply texture paste first and let it dry completely.
Add a second layer of texture paste in specific areas to create varied terrain heights and depths.
Once the paste is dry, dry brush to highlight textures and create a more natural look.
Static Grass:
Apply a thin layer of PVA glue over the dried texture paste.
Sprinkle static grass onto the glue and use a static grass applicator for a more upright, realistic effect.
Mix different shades of static grass to mimic natural vegetation.
Foliage:
Use clump foliage or fine turf to add shrubbery and bushes.
Apply small amounts of glue to the desired areas on the texture paste base and press the foliage into place.
Blend multiple types of foliage for a diverse, natural look.
Miniature Accessories:
Embed small rocks, twigs, or resin accessories into the wet texture paste to add detail.
Position larger accessories, like ruined buildings or miniature figures, before the paste fully dries to ensure a secure fit.
Paint these accessories to match the overall theme and enhance integration with the base.
Blending and Transitions:
Use fine sand or gravel around the edges of the texture paste to create smooth transitions between different terrain types.
Apply pigment powders or washes to blend colors and add weathering effects.
Adding Water Effects:
After the texture paste has dried and been painted, apply a gloss medium or water effect product to create realistic water features like puddles or streams.
Layer multiple applications for depth and realism.
Detailing and Highlights:
Once all materials are in place and dry, use fine brushes to add highlights and shadows.
Dry brushing with lighter colors can help accentuate textures and edges, adding to the realism.
Combining texture paste with these materials allows you to create dynamic and realistic bases that truly bring your miniatures to life. Experiment with different techniques and materials to find the perfect combination for your specific project.

The Vermintide Cometh! Looking at Age of Sigmar...
Age of Sigmar 4th edition launch day has finally been announced and it is July 13th! We have a great group of AoS players here at Wandering Adventures, and I wanted to take a look at some of what is coming for Age of Sigmar here at the store, and in this new edition. To start, we will be doing a midnight launch, much like we did for 40K's Leviathan. We will gather around 11PM for snacks and chatter about the new edition, and try out some of the new Spearhead rules. Then when the clock strikes 12, those who pre-ordered can crack open their boxes and get a head start on looking at what is to come this edition.
Don't forget to get in touch with us if you want to pre-order your copy!info@wanderingadventures.netor visit us in store
You can find all the info and register here:Midnight Release
Next up will be our Dawn Of Legends League. It is our Age of Sigmar league, where generals will play 6 games over 3 months against arranged opponents, vying for domination of the mortal realms! Our Age of Sigmar leagues are always fun, competitive and action packedCheck out more information here:Dawn Of Legends
Lastly I wanted to mention a couple of the cool rules that I've seen from the new edition.Terrain and Battlefields:You can find GW's explanation HERE.I really like that they are clarifying terrain, and giving you battlefield layouts. Maybe this is a narrow like for me being a game store owner, but it seems like gone are the days of "how does this terrain work" and "how do we set up the battlefield." Layouts are clear, and terrain effects are clear. You want terrain in your games, but you don't want it to influence the winner too much, so these mirrored battlefields look really nice, and will help speed up a game entirely. Bye-bye defenders setting up the battlefield.
Anatomy Of A Warscroll:You can find GW's explanation HERE.At first glance, the warscrolls might seem a bit wordy. But I actually believe after a couple games they will make a great reference and are clean but also allow a unit to express themselves on the tabletop. You can take a quick scan and find everything you need from passives to abilities, and when they word. The big thing is doing your memorize to memorize the color coding of phases, but once you do that warscrolls will be easily readable and you will miss less abilities.
What I will miss (but maybe not)
Subfactions. I always loved subfactions. It was my way of expressing my theme on the field, and picking combinations I liked. So far, it looks like they are gone. However, it looks like they might have even improved on this system with Battle Formations. Maybe your whole army won't gain the formation abilities, but what is kind of cool is you will be able to fit multiple fun abilities into one army. Once we have the full rules this will be clearer.
That's all for today! If you want to pre-order AoS 4.0 let us know!

Basing Your Miniatures!
Crafting Bases for Your Warhammer Miniatures
Creating captivating bases for Warhammer miniatures not only enhances their visual appeal but also immerses you deeper into the narrative and aesthetics of your army. Whether you’re a seasoned hobbyist or a newcomer, this guide will walk you through the process of making dynamic and detailed bases for your miniatures.
Materials You’ll Need
Bases: Provided with your miniatures or purchased separately.
PVA Glue: Essential for sticking materials to the base.
Texture Paste: For creating realistic ground surfaces.
Sand and Gravel: Adds gritty texture to your bases.
Static Grass and Flock: For grass effects.
Cork: Ideal for creating rocks and elevated areas.
Acrylic Paints: A variety of colors for painting the base.
Brushes: Different sizes for painting and applying glue.
Tweezers: For precise placement of small details.
Decorative Basing Materials: Tufts, small stones, skulls, etc.
Sealer: Varnish to protect the finished base.
Step-by-Step Guide
1. Preparation
Clean the Base: Ensure the base is free of mold lines and debris.
Plan Your Layout: Consider the scene you want to create. Sketching a rough layout can be helpful.
2. Creating Texture
Apply Texture Paste: Spread texture paste or a mixture of PVA glue and sand/gravel over the base. This forms the groundwork.
Add Elevation: Use pieces of cork to create rocks and elevated areas. Secure them with PVA glue.
Dry Time: Allow everything to dry thoroughly before proceeding.
3. Adding Details
Incorporate Additional Elements: Glue small stones, skulls, or other decorative items to enhance the base. Use tweezers for precise placement.
Static Grass and Flock: Apply PVA glue where you want grass, sprinkle static grass or flock, then shake off the excess. For a more realistic effect, use a static grass applicator if available.
Drying: Ensure all glue is completely dry.
4. Painting the Base
Base Coat: Paint the entire base with a base coat. Dark brown or black works well.
Dry Brushing: Highlight textures using a dry brushing technique. Light browns, grays, or beiges are ideal for this step.
Detail Painting: Paint additional elements like rocks or skulls in appropriate colors.
Grass and Foliage Wash: Apply a wash of green or brown to the grass and foliage to create a natural look.
5. Final Touches
Seal the Base: Apply a protective sealer or varnish to safeguard your work.
Attach Your Miniature: Once the base is dry, use super glue or epoxy to secure your miniature in place.
Tips for Creating Amazing Bases
Consistency is Key: Keep your bases consistent to maintain a cohesive look across your army or set.
Draw Inspiration: Look at real-world environments and other hobbyists’ work for ideas.
Experiment Freely: Don’t hesitate to try new materials and techniques to achieve unique effects.

Abaddon The Despoiler: Warmaster of the Imperiu...
With this week's release of the Chaos Space Marines for Warhammer 40K, at Wandering Adventures we want to take a quick look at the lore behind Chaos' big daddy, Abaddon The Despoiler.
Abaddon actually had altruistic beginnings. He was originally named Ezekyle Abaddon, and was a Space Marine of the Luna Wolves Legion during the Great Crusade, a military campaign led by the Emperor of Mankind to reunite the human worlds. The Luna Wolves were later renamed the Sons of Horus in honor of their Primarch, Horus, who was the Emperor's favored son and leader of the Luna Wolves.
As First Captain of the Luna Wolves, Abaddon was Horus's most trusted and capable lieutenant. He played a crucial role in many of the early victories of the Legion and was known for his martial prowess, leadership, and unwavering loyalty to Horus.
The pivotal event in Abaddon's life was the Horus Heresy, a galaxy-spanning civil war initiated by Horus after he was corrupted by the Chaos Gods. Abaddon was among the first to join Horus in rebellion against the Emperor. Throughout the Heresy, Abaddon fought alongside Horus and proved himself a formidable commander and warrior.
The Horus Heresy culminated in the Siege of Terra, where Horus led his forces in a desperate assault on the Emperor's palace. During this final battle, Horus was slain by the Emperor, and the Traitor Legions were driven into the Eye of Terror, a warp rift where the influence of Chaos is strongest.
In the aftermath of Horus's death, the Sons of Horus were left leaderless and fractured. Abaddon seized control, renaming the Legion the Black Legion and abandoning any remnants of loyalty to Horus. He sought to unite the scattered Chaos Space Marine warbands under his banner and wage an unending war against the Imperium.
Abaddon became known as "the Despoiler" for his relentless and devastating Black Crusades. These are massive, galaxy-spanning campaigns aimed at destabilizing and destroying the Imperium. He has launched thirteen major Black Crusades, each causing immense destruction and posing significant threats to Imperial worlds.
The Black Crusades are part of the larger conflict known as the Long War, a protracted struggle between the forces of Chaos and the Imperium that began with the Horus Heresy. Each crusade is a step in this ongoing war, aimed at gradually wearing down the Imperium's defenses, exploiting its weaknesses, and ultimately achieving the final victory of Chaos.
For Abaddon, the Black Crusades are also deeply personal. They represent his desire to surpass Horus, his former master, and prove himself as the ultimate champion of Chaos. Abaddon is driven by a combination of personal ambition, hatred for the Imperium, and a desire for vengeance against the Emperor and those who defeated Horus during the Horus Heresy.
Abaddon the Despoiler by Israel Llona
Abaddon is renowned for several powerful artifacts and traits:
Drach'nyen: A daemon sword that houses a powerful Warp entity, capable of rending reality itself.
The Talon of Horus: A lightning claw that once belonged to Horus himself, symbolizing Abaddon's succession and his intent to surpass his former master.
Terminator Armor: Abaddon wears ancient and heavily modified Terminator Armor, providing him with exceptional protection and augmenting his already formidable combat abilities.
I hope you enjoyed this little delve into Abaddon The Despoiler, the champion of chaos.

Flesh and Blood: Getting Ready For Sealed Events
Sealed events are a fun and exciting way to level the playing field for trading cards games. At Wandering Adventures we want to explore some of the elements of sealed events for our upcoming Pre-Release for Flesh and Blood's upcoming release, Part The Mistveil.
Taking part in a sealed pre-release event is a great way to engage with a new set. Whether or not you want to commit to a hero in the set, it is a good way to see how cards will be played, new mechanics, new heroes, and overall enjoying the expansion without diving too deep.
What is a sealed event?
From fabtcg.com:Are you looking for an easy and fun way to experience Flesh and Blood while building up your collection? Look no further than the Sealed Deck format! Open six booster packs, build your deck from the cards you receive, and let the fun begin. With no outside cards allowed, every game is a fresh and unique challenge that will test your skills and creativity. Plus, Sealed Deck is a great way to add new cards to your collection while having a blast with friends. Come and join the fun!
Sealed events challenge players to create decks on the spot, and use them in a quick tourney setting. While this may sound like a lot of pressure, don't worry because they are meant to be casual and fun, with social interaction and camaraderie among players. Whether it's discussing card choices, sharing strategies, or simply enjoying the thrill of competition, sealed events can foster a sense of community among participants.
Sealed events introduce variety by allowing players to experience different cards and strategies than they might encounter in constructed formats. Since players are working with random card pools, each sealed event offers a fresh and unpredictable experience.
Here are fabtcg.com's tips for Sealed Events:
-You don't need to bring your own cards or deck to play sealed deck. Just turn up and play!
-You'll get 6 booster packs to crack open and make a 30 card minimum deck from. --You keep these cards.
-You'll have 30 minutes to make a deck. If you're struggling, simply choose your favorite hero, play every card of that hero's class, and top up to 30 cards with generics you like the look of. Easy, done!
-Don't worry if you don't open the hero or weapon cards you want to play with. You get to add these to your deck from a public token station provided by the tournament organiser.
-Young hero cards are used for sealed deck games.
-Your hero dictates what cards you can play with. Cards in your deck must be the same class as your hero or be generic cards.
-Official sealed deck matches are 30 minutes, best of 1.
-Have a way to keep track of your life total, such as pen and paper.
-Deck boxes, sleeves and play mats are commonly used to protect your cards, but are not required.
-Store judges/staff are there to help, so if you have questions about rules or the event itself, make sure to ask them. This includes during a game.
What can we expect out of Part The Mistveil?
Here is a video from Flesh and Blood that helps players our for building a sealed deck for Part The Mistveil:
We are excited to host our first ever Pre-Release event on May 27th at Wandering Adventures. We have a few tickets left and you can get them here: https://wanderingadventures.ca/products/part-the-mistveil-pre-release-wandering-adventures

Preparing for the Wandering Adventures Escalati...
With June approaching and the Wandering Adventures escalation league getting closer many players old and new will be eager to build, paint, and field their respective armies against one another for the glory of being the best in the store. Let's look at how to prepare for the first 2 games at 1000 points.
1000 points
Building an army at 1000 points is going to be crucial, you will have to include enough units to fulfill a variety of roles. Thankfully, 10th edition is an edition where unit cost is relatively low. I would recommend including a unit that is able to grant sticky objectives (allowing a unit to claim an objective on your command phase, freeing up that unit to do other things). Aside from that one vehicle/monster unit or some form of anti-tank in order to be able to face off against the higher toughness & wounds units.
Characters
10th edition has a special emphasis on the characters you field on the board, whether they be named characters or generic ones. The LEADER keyword will dictate which units that character can lead as well as which benefits that leader can give the unit. For 1000 points I would not go Above 200 to 300 points maximum In character units, as it may deprive you of other more useful units. However characters offer good unit synergies, higher damage or even abilities like lone operative, which could force your enemy to commit their units to get into range and kill them. Each faction will have their own unique Leader combinations that you are free to discover and utilize in order to eliminate your enemies.
Monsters and Vehicles
Aside from infantry and mounted (bike) units, many factions have access to vehicles or monster units that tend to have high wounds, toughness and strength. When building A 1000 point list I would limit the cost on these units to 300 maximum similar to character costs, as I would prioritize infantry units to score primary or secondary mission actions, and contest the objective against your enemies. In regards to vehicles, armies also contain one or two transport vehicles which could shield your weaker units while getting them where they need to go. It should also be known that these larger units are more likely to be targeted by the enemy's anti-tank units, so make sure to think hard before choosing to move them.
I hope that this has been helpful, and that I get to go up against many unique and flavorful lists in the coming months!

Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka: Ork Warlord
Hey Adventurers! Rather than look at all of the Orks before their upcoming release, I wanted to focus in on Ghazghkull Mag Uruk Thraka. He is perhaps the most iconic Ork Warlord out there, known for his immense size, cunning, and ambition to lead the largest WAAAGH! in history.
Ghazghkull was born on the feral Ork world of Urk, which was a place of constant warfare and brutality even by Ork standards. From a young age, Ghazghkull exhibited exceptional strength, cunning, and leadership qualities, quickly rising to prominence among his fellow Orks.
Ghazghkull's true rise to power came when he encountered a group of Blood Axe Orks who had been abandoned by their Warboss. Recognizing Ghazghkull's potential, the Blood Axes took him under their wing and taught him the art of strategy and tactics, traits uncommon among most Orks. One of the most significant aspects of Ghazghkull's time with the Blood Axes was his exposure to human warfare. The Blood Axes had a reputation for studying and even emulating the tactics of their enemies, including humans. This exposure to human warfare tactics gave Ghazghkull a unique perspective and an edge over other Ork Warlords who solely relied on brute strength.
With his newfound knowledge and charisma, Ghazghkull began uniting various Ork tribes and warbands under his leadership, forming the mighty WAAAGH! Ghazghkull. This WAAAGH! quickly became one of the largest and most dangerous Ork hordes in the galaxy.
Ghazghkull's most famous campaign is arguably the Third War for Armageddon. Leading his WAAAGH! against the Imperium's forces, Ghazghkull waged a brutal and protracted war that saw unimaginable devastation inflicted upon the planet. His cunning strategies and sheer ferocity made him a formidable foe for the Imperium.
Ghazghkull is not only a skilled strategist but also a fearsome combatant in his own right. Towering over most Orks, he possesses immense strength and resilience, able to cleave through enemies with his massive Power Klaw. His presence on the battlefield inspires fear and fervor among his followers, driving them to ever greater acts of violence and brutality.
Ghazghkull's influence extends far beyond individual battles or campaigns. He is seen as a prophet-like figure among Orks, with many believing him to be the chosen of their gods, Gork and Mork. Even when reports claimed Ghazghkull had been killed or defeated, he always seemed to find a way to return, leading fresh WAAAGHs against the Imperium or other enemies. This relentless pursuit of conquest and his seemingly indomitable spirit only served to reinforce his status as a legendary figure among Orks.
Come and start your Ork WAAAGH! at Wandering Adventures.

Adeptus Custodes: The Emperors Golden Warriors
With their upcoming release, and recent controversy, I thought it would be a good time to look at the Adeptus Custodes, the physical embodiment and protectors of the Emperor.
The Adeptus Custodes are an elite military force within the Imperium of Man in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Numbered 10,000 strong, they are the personal bodyguard of the Emperor of Mankind, stationed on Terra. You can imagine that a character as important and crucial to the survival of mankind would have his own elite warriors to protect him.
The Legio Custodes operate as his emissaries, companions, and keeper of his many secrets. Where each primarch has is own legion of Space Marines, the Custodes guard and act in accordance to the wishes of the Emperor.
The Adeptus Custodes were created through a process known as the "Emperor's genetic template." This process involved the Emperor of Mankind using his unparalleled knowledge of genetics and bio-alchemy to genetically engineer the Custodians.
The Emperor began his work on creating the Custodes during the Unification Wars on Terra, long before the events of the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. He sought to create a force of superhuman warriors who would serve as his personal guardians and protectors of his vision for humanity.
Using ancient gene-crafting techniques and the most advanced technology available to him, the Emperor enhanced the genetic makeup of selected human subjects, imbuing them with superhuman strength, speed, resilience, and other enhanced abilities. These enhancements made the Custodians far superior to regular humans and even surpassed the capabilities of the Astartes, the genetically modified super-soldiers who would later become the Space Marines.
Additionally, the Emperor implemented psychic nullification into the genetic makeup of the Custodes, making them blanks or psychic nulls. This ability to nullify psychic phenomena and disrupt psychic powers was a crucial aspect of their role as guardians of the Emperor and defenders of Terra.
The process of creating the Custodes was incredibly meticulous and painstaking, requiring the Emperor's direct involvement and supervision. Each Custodian was a carefully crafted masterpiece of genetic engineering, honed to perfection for their role as the Emperor's elite protectors.
The armor of the Adeptus Custodes is one of their most iconic features, instantly recognizable by its gleaming golden hue and intricate design. The Custodes wear suits of highly advanced power armor forged from auramite, a rare and incredibly durable material. The armor is a striking gold color, symbolizing the wealth and power of the Imperium. It is intricately designed, adorned with ornate patterns, symbols, and embellishments that reflect the honor and status of the Custodes.
The armor is equipped with a variety of advanced systems and technologies to enhance the Custodes' combat effectiveness. This includes auto-senses for enhanced situational awareness, vox communication systems, and environmental control systems to protect against hostile environments.
The Custodes possess an innate ability known as the Aegis of the Emperor. This psychic aura radiates from them, providing protection to nearby allies and disrupting enemy psychic powers. It reflects their status as psychic blanks or nulls, making them immune to many forms of psychic manipulation.
Custodes are some of the most skilled and disciplined warriors in the Imperium. They undergo rigorous training from an early age, honing their combat skills to perfection. Their combat prowess, combined with their superior physical abilities and advanced weaponry, makes them formidable opponents on the battlefield.
Constantin Valdor is one of the most prominent Custodes in Imperial history. He was the Captain-General of the Custodian Guard during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, serving as the Emperor's right hand and closest confidant. Valdor was renowned for his tactical brilliance, martial prowess, and unyielding loyalty. His actions played a significant role in shaping the course of galactic events during this tumultuous era.
Trajann Valoris is the current Captain-General of the Adeptus Custodes in the 41st Millennium. He is known for his steadfast leadership and unshakeable dedication to the Emperor's will. Valoris is a formidable warrior and strategist, wielding the legendary weapon known as the Watcher's Axe. He is also known for his role in leading Custodes forces during critical battles and campaigns, defending Terra and the Emperor's interests throughout the Imperium.
"With the birth of the Great Rift in the Era Indomitus, and the resurrection of Primarch Roboute Guilliman as the lord commander of the Imperium and Imperial Regent, the Adeptus Custodes have been forced to take a more active role in galactic affairs. A force of Custodians has followed Guilliman's Indomitus Crusade out into the galaxy, often serving as the heralds of a Torchbearers fleet bringing the Primaris creation technology to existing Space Marine Chapters."-https://warhammer40k.fandom.com/wiki/Adeptus_Custodes
Custodes are fiercely loyal to the Emperor and the Imperium. They serve as his unwavering guardians, willing to sacrifice everything to protect him and his vision for humanity.

Flesh and Blood- Game Formats
Hi everyone! We've been running a lot of Flesh and Blood here at the store, and I wanted to showcase all the formats available to play to catch people up. I won't include every single format, but just the ones you are most likely to see here at the store.
Constructed Formats
These are formats where you actually construct your deck, and bring those to the game.
Classic Constructed (CC)
1 hero card (can’t be a young hero)
80 card-pool (includes weapons, equipment, etc., and cards in the deck)
Start with a minimum of 60 cards in the deck
Up to 3 copies of each unique card
55 minutes per round, first to 1
Classic Constructed is considered the full game for Flesh and Blood. You bring a full 80 card deck, and really get to explore your combos and Hero with the large health pool. When you envision playing a Hero, you should plan it around a Classic Constructed deck.
Blitz
1 young hero card
52 card-pool (includes weapons, equipment, etc., and cards in the deck)
Start with exactly 40 cards in the deck
Up to 2 copies of each unique card
35 minutes per round, first to 1
Blitz is kind of like CC-light. It is roughly half the cards in play, and games tend to me MUCH quicker. It definitely requires a different mentality than CC, but is still very fun to play. I like that you can get multiple games done in an hour, and right now is the preferred format at Wandering Adventures.
Limited Formats
Sealed Deck
Each player opens 6 boosters (~90 cards, depending on the set)
1 young hero card from the set
Start with a minimum of 30 cards in the deck
Any amount of each unique card
35 minutes per round, first to 1
In Sealed Deck, each player opens 6 booster packs of a core set, removes the last 1 or 2 cards from the pack (the token-slot cards), and registers any young hero card from the set and the cards that they open from their packs. A player’s card-pool includes every card that they’ve opened from their packs and any number of token-rarity cards from the set. This format is exciting to do on pre-release, and creates an even playing field for players.
Booster Draft
Each player drafts cards from 3 boosters (~45 cards, depending on the set)
1 young hero card from the set
Start with a minimum of 30 cards in the deck
Any amount of each unique card
35 minutes per round, first to 1
To draft cards, players are arranged into pods. The suggested number of players for a pod is 8 (no less than 4 and no more than 11). Each player is given 3 booster packs to draft, and then the drafting begins.
Simultaneously, all players open 1 of their 3 booster packs and remove the last 1 or 2 cards from the pack (the token-slot cards). Players then choose (draft) 1 card from among the cards remaining in the pack and place it face down into a single pile in front of them. The remaining cards are then shuffled and passed to the player seated on their left. Players pick up the cards passed to them and repeat this process until all cards in the pack have been drafted.
This is a fun format, and really casual. It lets you play another Hero you might not have otherwise tried out, but also tests your knowledge of building a deck on the fly.
Special Formats
Ultimate Pit Fight (multiplayer)
Ultimate Pit Fight is based on the Blitz format, but expands the rules to include 3 or more players.
1 young hero card or Adjudicator hero card
52 card-pool (every official Flesh and Blood card is legal, including special-use promos)
Start with exactly 40 cards in the deck
Up to 2 copies of each unique card
55 minutes per round, first to 1
In this casual multiplayer format, all Flesh and Blood cards are fair game as you battle your way to victory. With politics, alliances, and backstabbing encouraged, Ultimate Pit Fight is the perfect way to gather friends and enjoy the social aspect of the game. So grab your deck, hone your tactics, and prepare for the roar of the crowd as you claim your legend story in Ultimate Pit Fight!
Commoner
Commoner is based on the Blitz format, but with additional restrictions.
1 young hero card (common or rare)
52 card-pool
weapons and equipment (common or rare)
cards in the deck (only common)
Start with exactly 40 cards in the deck
Up to 2 copies of each unique card
30 minutes per round, first to 1
Whether you're new to Flesh and Blood or a seasoned player looking for a relaxed gaming experience, the Commoner format has you covered. With a low barrier to entry and a focus on social play, Commoner is an ideal format for players of all levels. Build your deck using common and rare cards, then dive into the game's rich world of strategy and excitement. With its welcoming atmosphere and emphasis on fun, Commoner is the perfect way to experience Flesh and Blood with friends.
That's all for today! There are a couple other formats to look at, like Blitz Preconstructed, Shapeshifter or Living Legend, but these are all variations of the main formats above. The different formats provide different levels of difficulty and challenge for players and you may find you like one over the other.
Flesh and Blood
Flesh and Blood is a game that involves two or more players who assume the control of a hero, a character with equipment, abilities and set of cards. There are seven different card types, such as hero, equipment, weapon, action, reaction (attack and defense) and instant. Hero, weapon and equipment cards are in play at the start of the game.

Product First-Look: Krydrufi All In One Modular...
Greetings, fellow adventurers!
Today, I'm going to introduce a future addition to our store's inventory: the All-In-One Modular Art Box by Krydufi.
This innovative product gained significant traction through its successful Kickstarter campaign, which you can explore further here:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/krydrufi/introducing-krydrufi-the-all-in-one-modular-art-boxSome Reviews you can check out:
Don Suratos Review
Sprues and Brews Review
The Krydufi All-In-One Modular Art Box is designed to elevate your miniature painting experience by offering unparalleled convenience and organization. Its modular design allows you to customize your setup, selecting and attaching only the components you need, all neatly housed in a compact unit.
Do you need an art box to handle all of your miniature needs that is both compact and versatile?
Ideal for both travel and tabletop use, this box ensures that all your essential painting tools are easily accessible while conserving precious space.
Let's look at some of its features:
Modular Palettes: The box includes four palette-like sections that seamlessly clip together for compact storage. While initially snug, they offer a secure seal once clipped, ensuring your paints and accessories stay in place during transport or use. With two wet palettes and two paint palettes provided, you'll have ample space for mixing and organizing your paints.
Paint Cups: A standout feature of the All-In-One Modular Art Box is its paint cups, designed to accommodate brushes and tools of various sizes. The textured bottom facilitates easy brush cleaning, while the provision of two cups enables separation of metallic and regular acrylic paints—a boon for discerning painters.
Extra Accessories: In addition to the palettes and cups, the box comes complete with sponges and palette papers, enhancing its utility and value.
My Favorite Elements
Dual Water Pots: I really like the dual water pots, and the idea that I can have one for clean acrylic water used to thin paints, and one to clean my brush. Better yet, if you use the wet palettes provided, you can use one side for cleaning metallic and the other to clean regular acrylics.
Textured Brush Cleaner: This kind of goes hand in hand with the water pot but I wanted to highlight this benefit a bit more. There is a textured piece at the bottom of the water cup that helps you clean your brush much better than just regular flat surfaces.
Compact But Expansive: When it's all buttoned up, the whole art box hardly takes any space up on your work station. However when you pull everything out, you will hardly feel like you need more tools. With potentially two wet palettes, two dry palettes and the paint cup, you shouldn't feel like you are sacrificing space for comfort. Compact yet comprehensive, the All-In-One Modular Art Box ensures that you have everything you need for your painting adventure!
Buy What You Want: If you check out the pre-order page (it will be live April 8th) you can see that you have a lot of options if you don't want the whole kit. Want just the cups and wet palettes? Choose the Miniature Standard Set. Want just the cups? You can buy those alone. The options are amazing.
If you want to see it in person, come by the store! I have a copy available to check out.We are currently taking pre-orders for this, which is expected to land in-store at Wandering Adventures at the end of April.

Trading Card Sleeves and Protectors: Getting Or...
Hey everyone! For those newer to Trading Card Games, I wanted to take a quick look at the various types of trading card sleeves available to you, to protect your decks.
Let's start from the inside and work our way out:Inner SleevesInner sleeves are typically thinner and more transparent than outer sleeves. They are designed to directly cover the trading card itself, providing a protective barrier against scratches, fingerprints, and other minor damages. Inner sleeves are often used in conjunction with outer sleeves for added protection. In our humid Canadian climate, they are also your best chance at avoiding cards from curving, when placed inside an out sleeve.
Dragon Shield Inner Sleeves
Outer Sleeves
Outer sleeves, also known as card sleeves, are thicker and more rigid than inner sleeves. They provide additional protection by encasing the trading card and its inner sleeve, acting as a shield against more significant damage such as bending or liquid spills. Outer sleeves often have a sealed opening at the top to insert the card easily and securely. Additionally, outer sleeves can sometimes have additional features like resealable closures or UV protection to further safeguard the cards. As a gamer, these are the most customizable part of your collection outside of the actual cards. Usually you want to pair the outer sleeves to match your deck, be it through color or imagery. There are lots of cool options for this, with Matte being the most current preferred finish to the sleeves. Dragon Shield has also developed their "Dual" line to create an opaque finish that is most suited for tournament play.Dragon Shield Outer SleevesGamegenic Outer Sleeves
Toploaders
Top loaders are rigid plastic holders designed to encase a single trading card. They offer excellent protection against bending, creasing, and other forms of physical damage. Top loaders are commonly used for displaying valuable or special cards, as they provide a clear and sturdy presentation. These are probably best for some of your more valued cards, or if you want to protect them while showing them off to friends.Toploaders
Screwdown or Magnetic Holders:
Screwdown holders are rigid cases that securely sandwich a trading card between two pieces of plastic. They are typically used for displaying highly valuable cards or for long-term storage of prized possessions. Screwdown holders provide maximum protection against physical damage and are often used for collectible or investment-grade cards.
Deck Boxes:
Deck boxes are compact containers designed to hold a deck of trading cards, usually around 60 to 100 cards. They come in various styles and materials, including plastic, metal, and leather. Deck boxes provide protection against bending, crushing, and moisture for cards used in gameplay or decks in progress.
There are a ton of options when it comes to deck boxes, and it all depends on how elaborate you want to get. You can go with a simple Side Holder like show below:
Or you can go with someone that is a full package, like this:
Which, as described by Gamegenic, can afford you a lot of gaming comfort:
"Made to fit 100 double-sleeved cards in particularly thick Inner Sleeves*.
This extra large version of the Watchtower 100+ can be used to store 100 regular double-sleeved cards with extra space for additional tokens, or use it as the perfect fit for a Commander** deck in thicker inner sleeves.
INNOVATION: The convertible Watchtower combines deck box, accessories drawer, and card holder in one elegant box. An innovative card stack holder keeps even a large deck in perfect shape at the gaming table. No more tipping over your card stack when drawing cards. Additionally, the accessories drawer is perfect to house dice, counters, and other small items."
Deckboxes
Card Binders and Storage Boxes: Card binders are albums specifically designed to store and organize trading cards. These binders typically have plastic sleeves or pockets where cards can be inserted. They offer a convenient way to browse and showcase a collection while providing protection against dust, moisture, and light exposure.
Storage boxes come in various sizes and are ideal for storing larger quantities of trading cards. They are typically made of sturdy materials like cardboard or plastic and often feature dividers or compartments to keep cards organized. Storage boxes offer protection against dust, moisture, and physical damage, and they are commonly used for long-term storage of card collections.
These are kind of the last stop for cards, more of a container thing rather than for actual gaming or travelling.
I hope that helps! At Wandering Adventures you can find a lot of the stuff mentioned in this blog, and you can use code: ProtectMyDeck for an extra 5% off Dragon Shield and Gamegenic products!

For The Greater Good: Look at the T'au
With their exciting release around the corner, I want to highlight the T’au Empire this week and where they fit in the Warhammer 40K universe.
The T'au Empire is a relatively young and rapidly expanding faction within the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000. They are a technologically advanced species with a strong sense of unity and purpose. “For the Greater Good" is the core philosophy of the T'au Empire and serves as the guiding principle for their society, culture, and governance. It represents the idea that individuals should prioritize the collective well-being of the T'au Empire over personal desires or interests
Caste System: The T'au society is structured into castes, each with its own role and responsibilities. These castes include the Fire Caste (warriors), Earth Caste (engineers and laborers), Air Caste (pilots and navigators), Water Caste (diplomats and merchants), and Ethereal Caste (spiritual and political leaders).
Mont'au Era: Before the rise of the Ethereals and the adoption of the Greater Good philosophy, the T'au were divided into warring factions during a period known as the Mont'au. It was marked by violence and chaos until the Ethereals unified the T'au under one banner.
Xeno Integration: Unlike many other factions in Warhammer 40,000, the T'au are open to integrating other species into their empire, as long as they adhere to the Greater Good. This includes the Kroot, Vespids, and even some human populations.
Characters:
Commander Farsight: Perhaps one of the most iconic figures in T'au lore, Commander Farsight broke away from the mainstream T'au Empire and formed his own enclave. He is known for his strategic brilliance and his unique battlesuit, the Dawn Blade. Farsight, originally known as Shas'O Vior'la Shovah Kais, was born on the T'au Sept world of Vior'la. He showed exceptional skill and dedication as a Fire Warrior, rising through the ranks of the Fire Caste with remarkable speed. Farsight led a T'au expeditionary force into the Damocles Gulf region, where they encountered the aggressive forces of the Imperium of Man. It was during this campaign that Farsight's beliefs and convictions began to diverge from those of the mainstream T'au Empire.
In the midst of battle, Farsight discovered an ancient artifact known as the Dawn Blade. This artifact had a profound effect on Farsight, imbuing him with visions of a different path for the T'au Empire.
Disillusioned with the Ethereals' leadership and the rigid constraints of T'au society, Farsight established his own enclave in the far reaches of the galaxy. Here, he sought to forge a new destiny for the T'au people, free from the influence of the Ethereals.
Ethereal Aun'va: Aun'va is one of the most influential Ethereals within the T'au Empire. He is known for his wisdom and leadership, guiding the T'au towards the Greater Good. Aun'va holds the esteemed position of Ethereal Supreme, making him the highest-ranking Ethereal within the T'au Empire. As such, he wields considerable authority and influence over T'au society.
Despite Aun'va's revered status, there are some who question the legitimacy of Ethereal rule within the T'au Empire. Critics argue that the Ethereals exert too much control over T'au society, stifling individual freedoms and dissent.
Shas'O Kais: Kais is a renowned Fire Warrior who gained fame during the events of the "Fire Warrior" video game. His story showcases the T'au's dedication to their cause and their adaptability in the face of adversity. Kais gained widespread recognition for his actions during the Battle of Prefectia, where he displayed remarkable courage and leadership under fire. His strategic prowess and tactical ingenuity contributed significantly to the T'au victory. Throughout his adventures, Kais interacts with humans from the Imperium, gaining a deeper understanding of their culture, beliefs, and motivations. These encounters shape his worldview and influence his actions.
Achievements:
Diplomatic Successes: Despite their relatively small size compared to other galactic powers, the T'au have managed to establish diplomatic relations with various alien species, forming alliances and trade agreements that benefit their empire.
Technological Advancements: The T'au are known for their advanced technology, including powerful battlesuits, sleek spacecraft, and sophisticated weaponry. Their technological prowess allows them to compete with much older and more established factions in the galaxy.
Expansion: Through a combination of diplomacy, colonization, and military conquest, the T'au Empire continues to expand its influence across the galaxy, bringing more worlds into the fold of the Greater Good.
Ethereals Ethereals are revered as both spiritual and political leaders within the T'au Empire. They provide guidance, wisdom, and direction to the T'au people, ensuring that their society remains united and focused on the Greater Good.
Ethereals are seen as embodiments of the Greater Good philosophy. Their words carry immense weight and authority, and they are respected by all castes within T'au society. Their guidance shapes the decisions and actions of the T'au people.
Ethereals possess powerful psychic abilities that allow them to influence the thoughts and emotions of those around them. They can inspire loyalty, courage, and selflessness in their followers, further reinforcing the unity of the T'au Empire.
The origins of the Ethereals are shrouded in mystery. They appeared seemingly out of nowhere during a time of great strife known as the Mont'au era. Their sudden appearance and ability to unite the warring T'au factions fueled speculation and reverence among the T'au populace.
Some theories suggest that Ethereals may represent a natural evolutionary leap for the T'au species. Their psychic abilities and innate charisma set them apart from other T'au, leading some to believe that they are a new, superior breed of T'au.
Some individuals within the T'au Empire, particularly those outside the inner circle of Ethereal influence, question the true motives and intentions of the Ethereals. There are whispers of mind control or manipulation, although such claims are often dismissed as heresy. Commander Farsight's breakaway from the T'au Empire was partly motivated by his disillusionment with the Ethereals' leadership. His rebellion raises questions about the true nature of the Ethereals and the extent of their influence over T'au society.
While the T'au Empire presents itself as a progressive and enlightened society, there are darker elements to their actions and governance. Critics point to issues such as expansionism, manipulation, and inequality within T'au society as evidence of a more sinister side to their empire. As with many factions in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the T'au's portrayal is complex

Zenithal Priming- Why You Should Be Doing It
A lot of customers ask me "Mike, do you zenithal prime? and my answer, these days, is always a resounding yes! Today we will dive in a bit and explore zenithal priming, why it's useful, and why you should do it even if you don't want to necessarily use the effect.
Zenithal priming is a painting technique used in miniature or model painting, particularly in the context of tabletop gaming miniatures. The term "zenithal" refers to the highest point in the sky, directly above an observer. Zenithal priming involves applying primer to a miniature from a specific angle to create natural-looking shadows and highlights.
Typically, you use black, grey, then white to create values or gradients using mostly primers. This helps accomplish a couple of things. First, you get to actually prime your mini, which is almost always necessary. Secondly, you are creating a natural value or grade of shadows to highlight, that you can use when you eventually apply paint to the miniature.
How to Zenithal Prime
This is an image from The Army Painter, where they side by side a miniature primed all in black, and then beside it a nice coat of white that accentuates all the details and gives you natural highlights.
Check out their Blog Post: https://thearmypainter.com/blogs/explore/zenithal-priming
They do in fact skip the part of adding grey, but I like to add that part in. The grey will help with your mid-tone colors, where the white will really make certain areas pop. If you simply type in: Zenithal Priming into Google, take a look at all of the images around to get an idea of what your mini should look like.
To zenithal prime. you want to apply a solid layer of black all around the model. Then you want to take your grey primer, and have the models head face you. Apply the grey. This will put a nice grey coat all over the model, but still leave the undersides black. Lastly, I like to take my white, and do the same as grey, but put more emphasis on points of interest on the model. This includes (but not limited to): head, chest, weapons, knees. I like to add in the grey and use less white more specifically when I am doing approach #2 below.
This is a nice example of black, white and grey really making distinct sections in the model so when you apply contrast or paint by layer you have different gradients to work with.
How to use zenithal prime:
So you've created this black-to-white value on your miniature, now how do you use it? I like to use two different approaches to this, one is a bit more difficult than the other.
Approach 1: Contrast- Contrast paints (and their friends like Vallejo XPress or Army Paint Speed Paint) are semi-translucent paints that are meant to color your miniature in one coat. You apply the paint once, and it should dark in the recesses, and lighten in the higher spots. Now if you can image combined with zenithal highlights it will really push this effect. You can see the effect on the image below. This is one coat of contrast paint over a zenithal prime, and the green basically looks complete and doesn't need any other applications. It looks amazing for tabletop. The recesses stayed dark, the highlights went lighter, all in one simple coat.
Approach 2: Using the gradient- This technique is more difficult, and I would suggest using the first approach before you try this. However, it is basically using the zenithal coat to tell you where to apply paint. Basically, you want to take your base/shadow color, and apply it in the black areas of the primer. Then you want to take your highlight color, and apply it in the whitest/ highest parts of the model. Then you want to take your mid-tone/ layer and apply it where the two above colors meet. It takes a measure of blending and constant layering, but gives a beautiful natural effect when done properly. The nice part about having the zenithal down and then doing this is that the primer is essentially telling you where to put the paint, because sometimes the hardest part about painting is deciding where to put the colors and make it look natural.
That's it for today everyone, hope that helped show you why zenithal priming is a great start to painting your mini. Even if you decide to not use the values you've created, at least it will give you some basis as to where colors should be applied.
Check out Events, we have been hosting a monthly paint day where you can learn more about how to zenithal and use it to your advantage while painting.

Preparing A Miniature For Painting
Hi everyone! Today at Wandering Adventures we are going to look at preparing a miniature for painting. It's not a crazy process, but there are a few things to look out for to make sure your painting process goes smoothly (pun intended). Now, assembling miniatures is one of my least favorite parts of the hobby, but it is very important. I learned a long time ago that you can't paint away imperfections in your build, so taking some time doing this is important.
Here are some important tools for you to start with:
-Sprue Cutters/ Frame Cutters-Hobby Knife-Plastic Putty-File-Glue
Clean the Miniature (If using resin or Nolzur's Pre-Primed):
Before you start painting, make sure the miniature is clean from any dirt, dust, or mold release agents.
Wash the miniature with warm soapy water and use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub away any residues.
Rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely.
Remove Mold Lines and Flash After Cutting From Sprue:
When you cut the pieces from a sprue, you want to cut as close to the actual miniature as you can, leaving as little of the excess plastic as possible
Check the miniature for mold lines (the seams where the two halves of the mold meet) and any excess material (flash).
Use a hobby knife, mold line removal tool or files to carefully scrape away mold lines and trim excess material. I like to use a combination of both tools, with the hobby knife being the primary tool and the file coming in secondarily when needed.
(Source:https://www.wargamingtradecraft.com/2015/04/getting-started-removing-mould-lines.html)
Gluing Miniatures:
Before applying glue, dry fit the components to ensure they align correctly. This allows you to identify any issues and make adjustments before the glue is applied.
Choose a glue suitable for the material of your miniatures. For plastic miniatures, plastic cement or polystyrene cement works well. For metal or resin miniatures, super glue (cyanoacrylate) is often used.
Gel-type super glues provide better control and reduce the risk of accidental spills.
Glues that come with a brush (AK Interactive cement) are nice because you be very accurate in application
Use a small amount of glue to avoid excess that might ooze out when you press the components together. Too much glue can also obscure details.
Here is a nice graphic from Army Painter showing how to glue miniatures together:
Fill Gaps and Imperfections:
If there are gaps or imperfections in the miniature, use a modeling putty or filler to fill them.
Allow the putty to dry completely and then sand it down for a smooth surface.
I like to use Liquid Green Stuff or Vallejo Plastic Putty. They are water based so you can use some water to really fill the gaps smoothly and give yourself less (if any at all) filing work afterward. One thing to keep in mind is that these products do "shrink" so you may need to do 1-3 applications to really cover any seams.

Anatomy of a Blood Bowl team
Hey fans,
Today I wanted to show off the Blood Bowl team I am working on in anticipation of the Blood Bowl season we are running here in March at Wandering Adventures.
Team:
I chose to go with Nurgle because I've always wanted to paint some blue Nurgle skin, but never had the desire to paint up a whole army. This Blood Bowl team was the perfect excuse to just dip my toes in and get the scheme out of my system.
Inspiration
I wanted to base my team colors and theme off a real sports team. My favorite team is the St. Louis Blues, but I didn't feel like the blue/ yellow/ white would play well with the skin tones I wanted to go with. So I went and looked at NFL teams, and landed on the Baltimore Ravens. I think the deep purples and gold/ bronze trim would work perfectly with the skin tones I was aiming for.
Thus, the Blightmoor Ravens were born.
The Team So Far
As you can see, I'm not quite done but I have a lot of the colors put in so far. I'm pretty pleased with the skin, but I will likely glaze in some greens to add a little Nurgleliness to the whole idea. I still have to paint up the armor plates and add a lot of the skin details, but so far so good.
I did have some grand plans for the bases, but opted to go a little simpler with them to let the models do the talking. I do like how Nurgle-y they are, but I certainly could have been a little cleaner with the green pox and how it creeps on the bases.
Additional
I love the whole theme and inducements you can add to Blood Bowl. I also did up a coach Nurgling, inspired by Tom Landry. A few cheerleaders were added as well, even though I technically haven't purchased them in game. I even had a Fabius Bile ready to go as an apothecary, until I realized Nurgle teams can't hire them...
That's it for now!
The season starts in a few weeks, and if you were thinking of joining you can get more details HERE

Using Decals On Your Miniatures
One hobby technique that seems to get written off as "too difficult" or not worth it is using decals on your miniatures. Many miniature producers provide decals as part of their kits, and I find them to be a wonderful addition and relatively easy to master with a few techniques. I'm going to go over applying decals simply using some common hobby tools. I will also make sidenotes where specific tools might make it even easier.
Tools:
BrushLahmian MediumTweezersDecalWater
Optional:Decal FixDecal SoftenerDecal AdapterVarnish
Step 1. Get Decal Ready
Cut the decal from the sheet, dip it in water.
This part is easy. Cut the decal from the sheet that you want to use, and dip it in some clean water. Set it on your work table, and let it sit for about two minutes.
There are some products to make this easier, like Decal Softener. Water works ok, but a Decal Softener will work faster, and act a bit like a gel, will which help you not fold the decal when you are removing it from its backing. Again, it can be done without water, but Decal Softener is better.
2. Prepare your surface
You want to prepare the surface you are applying the decal too. In this case I am adding the decal to the Space Marines shoulder. I use Lahmian Medium for this. I apply a layer of Lahmian Medium over the area, and it creates a bit of a "glue." Lahmian Medium is paint without pigment, so it is a bit sticky like paint would be.
There are Decal Adapter and products that make the "glue" area much easier to work with, but Lahmium Medium can work too.
3. The Hard Part
Removing the decal from the backing is the hardest part. I like to use the stiffest brush I have to do this. You want to slowly try to creep the bristles under the decal, and remove it from the backing. Slowly is the key because you don't want to tear the decal, and you don't want the decal to fold in on itself either. You are trying to push the decal away from the backing, but also get it onto your brush.
Tip: if the decal isn't moving, it may need more time in water. If only the edges are starting to lift, apply so more water so it gets under the transfer.
Tip 2: Old transfer will likely break. Games Workshop transfers work quite well these days, but the older ones break easily. Try not to stress too much if they do, and start another one.
Tip 3: Sometimes a toothpick will help in this step. You still want to ultimately lift the decal using a brush, but a toothpick might help loosen it.
4. Applying the transfer.
Put the decal where you put the Lahmian Medium. Adjust the decal to the positioning you like, and let it dry.
If you find that some of the decal is curling or not sitting flat you have a couple options. Decal Fix or any sort of Decal product will help. I have also found creating a small slice with my hobby knife can sometimes help with flattening the decal. I don't like doing this because many things can wrong, but it can be an option in a pinch sometimes.
5. Finish
Once everything is dry, I would apply a second coat of a Decal Fix, Lahmian Medium or ideally a varnish to really seal in the decal.
I hope that helps, its a quick 5 steps and should really only take a couple minutes each decal. They are a great look to finish off any model.

Taking Care Of Your MIniatures Brushes: Miniatu...
Taking Care Of Your MIniatures Brushes: Miniature Brush Care
Whether you spent money on an expensive, or like to use multiple cheaper ones, keeping your brushes in good shape is always important. Taking care of miniature brushes is essential to ensure their longevity and optimal performance. Here are some tips to help you maintain your brushes and miniature brush care so you can keep on painting:
Clean after each use:
Thoroughly clean your brushes immediately after each use to prevent paint from drying on the bristles.
Use a gentle brush cleaner or mild soap and lukewarm water. Gently lather the bristles and rinse until the water runs clear.
Use a brush conditioner:
Consider using a brush conditioner or a specialized brush soap to help maintain the shape and condition of the bristles.
Dry properly:
Dry your brushes with the bristles pointing downward to prevent water from seeping into the ferrule (the metal part holding the bristles) and loosening the glue.
Avoid using a hairdryer or any direct heat source, as it can damage the bristles.
Reshape the bristles:
While the brush is still damp, gently reshape the bristles with your fingers to restore their original form. This is especially important for brushes with fine tips.
Avoid Getting Paint In Ferrule
Some paint brands require you use the brush to retrieve the paint from a pot, or when you mix your paints to thin them out, it might mean getting paint in the ferrule. Be mindful of trying not to do this, or use a dedicated brush to do the above tasks.
Store properly:
Store your brushes upright or in a brush holder to maintain their shape and protect them from damage.
Choose the right brush for the task:
Use the appropriate brush for different tasks. For example, use a fine detail brush for intricate work and a larger brush for broader strokes.
Avoid excessive pressure:
Painting with excessive pressure can cause the bristles to splay or break. Be gentle and let the brush do the work.
Regular inspections:
Periodically inspect your brushes for any signs of wear, such as frayed or split bristles. Replace damaged brushes promptly.
Here is a great brush cleaner we have at Wandering Adventures that isn't harsh on the brushes but does an amazing job of cleaning them: Magic Potion For Brushes
Also check out our extensive range of brushes: Brushes
Happy painting!

Warhammer 40K: The Dark Angels
Games Workshop is about to bring The Dark Angels to 10th Edition with a beautiful new box set. Let's take a look at the box set and most importantly their history within the 40K Universe.
"The greatest exemplars amongst the mysterious and unyielding Dark Angels are the Deathwing. Each a skilled veteran, they are led by heroes of a thousand battles, clad in Terminator armour and hefting powerful weapons taken from the Chapter’s most sacred armouries.
Belial, Grand Master of the Deathwing, commands 15 Terminators. Ten of these are existing mulit-part Terminators, accessorised in classic Deathwing style with two new Dark Angels upgrade frames, while the other five are the indomitable Deathwing Knights, unstoppable juggernauts armed with mighty heirloom weapons.
The box also contains Codex Supplement: Dark Angels, a 96-page book containing the rules and background for the Dark Angels, and featuring a unique cover. You also get 20 datasheet cards covering every unit in the Codex Supplement and two transfer sheets with over 200 transfers each.*"- Warhammer Community
As you can see, the amazing new Terminator sculpts come accompanied with some rich Dark Angels livery. It is an amazing addition to 10th edition, but let's dive a little bit into the lore of the Dark Angels. The Dark Angels were one of the original twenty Space Marine Legions created by the Emperor of Mankind during the Great Crusade to reunite the scattered human colonies across the galaxy. The Dark Angels were led by their Primarch, Lion El'Jonson. During the Horus Heresy, a galaxy-spanning civil war that nearly tore the Imperium apart, the Dark Angels played a pivotal role. However, the Dark Angels and their Primarch became embroiled in a mysterious event known as the "Lion's Night," which has left a lasting impact on the chapter's history.
The Dark Angels are known for their secretive and enigmatic nature, and they harbor a dark secret. Some of their own brethren, known as the Fallen, turned against the Imperium during the Horus Heresy and have been hunted by the Dark Angels ever since. The chapter is obsessed with bringing these renegades to justice and purging the shame of their betrayal.
The Dark Angels and their successor chapters, collectively referred to as the Unforgiven, share this obsession with hunting the Fallen. They keep their pursuit of the Fallen a closely guarded secret from the rest of the Imperium, going to great lengths to conceal their own murky history.Like other Space Marine Chapters, the Dark Angels follow the Codex Astartes, a set of guidelines and rules for the organization and tactics of Space Marine forces. However, they maintain the Inner Circle, a group within the chapter that is privy to the deepest and darkest secrets of the Dark Angels, including the truth about the Fallen.
The Dark Angels organize their forces into specialized formations known as the Ravenwing and the Deathwing. The Ravenwing consists of fast-moving and highly mobile units, often mounted on bikes or speeders. The Deathwing, on the other hand, consists of the chapter's Terminator-armored veterans.
The Dark Angels' fortress-monastery is called "The Rock," a massive mobile space fortress that was once the flagship of their Primarch, Lion El'Jonson. The Rock serves as their primary base of operations and is known for being highly mobile and nearly impregnable.
The Dark Angels are characterized by their brooding nature, mysterious history, and the constant pursuit of redemption for their past sins.
They are an amazing chapter within the Space Marine lore (literally and figuratively). Hope you enjoyed this look, and come by Wandering Adventures to talk more!

Flesh and Blood: What's Coming In Heavy Hitters?
With two Armory events this month, a growing community and a new expansion around the corner we wanted to look at what is coming with Flesh and Blood's next set: Heavy Hitters.
Jan 12th Armory: https://wanderingadventures.ca/products/flesh-and-blood-january-12-armory-event
Jan 26 Armory: https://wanderingadventures.ca/products/flesh-and-blood-january-26th-armory-event
"Heavy Hitters brings the biggest, strongest, hardest hitting fun to Flesh and Blood gaming tables yet! Featuring six heroes across Brute, Guardian, and Warrior classes, crossover hybrid cards, and more weapons and equipment than any draftable set before, the number of options for how you bring your fight to the arena are huge!"- fabtcg.com
So we have some of the original classes at the forefront, and here is a look at 3 of them:
You might notice a new mechanic there, in fact there are two:
Clash
"Amidst the roar of the crowd, the clash of metal meeting metal, the thud of meat meeting.... meat?! resounds throughout the Arena. The crowd is left gasping on the edge of their seats, as they await to see which mighty gladiator shall reveal victorious when the dust clears.
Clash is a new combat keyword that captures the "anything-could-happen" excitement when Heavy Hitters collide!
Although favouring the heaviest of our Heavy Hitters, when the underdog flips the clash in their favour, the crowd is sure to go wild!" fabtcg.com
Wager:
"Folk from across Rathe flock to the Deathmatch Arena and the surrounding Moat entertainment precinct to relish the many flavours of fun on the menu.
But ain't nothing free in this world. As sure as the brewskies be flowing through the Moat, and blood be flowing in the Arena, gold be the secret ingredient that keeps the fun flowing every which way you look.
Wager is a new keyword mechanic that captures the high stakes within the Deathmatch Arena and the good time vibes of the different games patrons are partial to have a flutter on in the Moat.
Pit the strength of your hand against the opponent, up the ante if you've got the gall, or maybe you just need to represent strength you don't actually have? Either way, when it's time to bet big, someone will walk away feeling like a million bucks!" -fabtcg.com
Another card that seems to be popping up a lot:
Gold:
Also, once the dust settles from the release, we hope to host an event tailored to this release:
Ultimate Pit Fight Draft (Multiplayer)
Ultimate Pit Fight meets Booster Draft in the Deathmatch Arena!
It's as easy as an 8-person draft, splitting into two 4-person UPF pods... with a winner-takes-all final match between the two heroes who emerge victorious from their respective pods, to crown the champion of the arena!
With six different heroes to choose from, and more weapons and equipment than any Flesh and Blood set ever before, the possibilities are HUGE in Heavy Hitters Ultimate Pit Fight Draft! Equip your hero, prepare to fight, and play to the crowd with new multiplayer-optimised gear
Heavy Hitters Set Details
255 card set (1 Fabled, 5 Legendary, 40 Majestic, 67* Rares, 128 Commons, 15* Tokens, 10 Marvels)
A lot of fun stuff going on here! Don't miss out and get in on the action at Wandering Adventures.

Looking At Some Of Games Workshop's Other Games
Many of us were introduced to tabletop wargaming through Warhammer. Whether it was 40K or Fantasy, you were intrigued by the mass of armies and throwing of dice or immersive lore. Today we are going to look at the rules difference in two of the other games that Games Workshop produces, Kill Team and Blood Bowl.
40K and Fantasy (now known as Age of Sigmar) are mass combat battles set in their respective universes. To play, you take command of a mass of troops, and take the battlefield to duke it out with an opponent. You command squads, units, troops, tanks, monsters and other weapons of destruction, and use them to squash the opposing army to bits. Pushing many models across the board, you play through phases using your entire army, and throw many, many dice.
Typical games are 2000 points, and let you use a host of models. Below are some pics found on the interwebs of 2000 point armies:
Both 40K and AoS use a system where one player will use their entire army over several phases, and then their opponent will do the same. Usually its 5 turns per player, and results in the glory of playing Warhammer with a combination of strategic gameplay, immersive lore, customization options, social interaction, tactical challenges, and epic battles.
Both Kill Team and Blood Bowl provide similar outcomes, but get there in different ways.
Kill Team is a skirmish-level tabletop wargame set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The game is designed for small-scale battles between elite squads of warriors. Players create a small force known as a "kill team," usually consisting of around 5 to 20 models and play the game over 4 turns.
The big difference between Kill Team and the mass combat games is that you are using 1 operative at a time, opposed to using a whole army at a time. Also, its a "you go, I go" system where in most cases one player would do their actions with 1 operative, then the opponent would do the same until all models have been activated.
One of the big differences between Kill Team and 40K is the shooting/ melee structure. In 40k you roll a To-Hit roll, then take successes for a To-Wound Roll. Your opponent would then attempt to defend any successful hits.
Shooting in Kill Team:
The attacker rolls their attack dice. Each result that equals or beats the selected weapon’s Ballistic Skill characteristic is a successful hit and is retained.
The defender collects their defence dice and rolls them. Their defence dice are a number of D6 equal to the target’s Defence characteristic.
You would then compare successes and leftover dice would either hit or block.
It's a very elementary explanation, but I can promise it creates some very dynamic gameplay. Players feel very involved in every phase, especially during attacking and defending. This system allows for quick resolution and dynamic gameplay. The streamlined process keeps the focus on tactical decisions and strategic positioning during battles.
Kill Team has a few other notable differences, like Cover, interactions with terrain, Engage/ Conceal mechanics and the way points are scored.
Next game we will briefly look at is Blood Bowl. It is unlike any of the other wargames that I have played. There is a simple reason for that: it isn't technically a wargame! It's a sport (football) set in a fantasy world.
Can players be killed in game? Yes.Can you bribe and argue with referees for an advantage? Yes.Do fans help you in game? Yes.Is it fun? Very much yes.
In Blood Bowl, you will play a game of two halves, having 8 turns in each half to try to get across the table and score a touchdown. This is probably the biggest difference between Blood Bowl and other wargames. Let's face it, in most games the goal is to kill the opposition. Yes there are objectives, but ultimately you are trying to clear the board of your opponents minis. In Blood Bowl, you WANT to play the objectives (touchdown) because its the way to win. Other features include:
Violence and Humor: Unlike traditional sports games, Blood Bowl embraces violence and adds a humorous twist to the gameplay. Players engage in brutal tackles, fouls, and even the occasional death on the field. The game doesn't take itself too seriously, incorporating a dark sense of humor throughout.
Randomness and Chaos Factor: Blood Bowl introduces an element of unpredictability with the use of dice rolls for various actions, such as passing, blocking, and picking up the ball. This randomness adds an extra layer of challenge and excitement, making each game unique.
Mix of Strategy and Chance: The combination of strategic planning and dice rolls adds an interesting dynamic to the game. Coaches need to balance risk and reward, adapt to unexpected events, and make the most of both successful and failed actions.Customization: Like many tabletop games, Blood Bowl involves the use of miniature figurines representing the players on the field. Players often enjoy the hobby aspect of painting and customizing their miniatures, adding a personal touch to their teams.
Overall, Blood Bowl's unique blend of fantasy, sports, strategy, and humor sets it apart from other tabletop games, creating an engaging and memorable gaming experience for players.
At Wandering Adventures we have upcoming events for both games:

Or our Blood Bowl Learn to Play Day

Wandering Adventures 2023 review
Wandering Adventures 2023 review
Hey adventurers!
I wanted to thank every one of you for an amazing 2023. Being only our second year in business, I am so proud of the community that we have developed here and I look forward to continuing our growth together. Thank you all for letting me be part of your adventure!
I wanted to take take a quick snapshot of the fun we've had over the year:
40K and AoS Escalation leagues- Our most demanding event yet, it ran over 9 months and included Hero Hammer games, painting competitions, Doubles games, and many, many, many 1v1 matches. We had some winners, but I hope you all enjoyed it. We are planning on changing the format for next year, so be on the lookout!
Kill Team Narrative- With the help of an amazing community, we ran a ridiculously fun Kill Team Narrative campaign. Now, it came with some bumps as the system for Kill Team has some issues, but I am super excited to run it again in 2024. Check out the new campaign HERE if you are interested in joining.
The Introduction of Flesh and Blood- The community here is mainly tabletop wargamers, with miniatures and painting. However, it's impossible to ignore the TCG side of things. Originally, we tried out MTG, and it has quite a few hurdles for a small store like ours to get through in order to properly host it. So I reached out the creators of Flesh and Blood, and boy did they deliver. They regularly supply us with loot to give out, and have created a game that is easy to navigate at first, but very nuanced to master.
Paints, and More Paints- Personally, I'm a big fan of painting miniatures. I love most aspects of it (not building), and I love exploring the various lines of paint and supplies that are on offer. Currently, we carry Citadel Paint, GSW Paint, Formula P3 Paint, AK Interactive Enamels, some Pro Acryl sets, and all of the new Vallejo paints. They are all very good, and have different uses for different painters, so if you ever need some painting advice or want to chat colors, please come by!
40K 10th Edition- Leviathan was a huge release this year. Games Workshop tore down the walls of the 9th edition, and completely revamped their game system with 10th edition. After some initial shakiness, it seems like it has been for the better of the game. Rules are more streamlined, new models are coming in like crazy, armies are being refreshed and there is so much excitement about the future of the game. We had an amazing midnight release here at the store too!
Notable mentions:
-Meeting new people!-This newsletter!
Thanks for the great year everyone, looking forward to the next adventure! See you in 2024!
